Job description

Job Overview

Staff Perfusionist – safe operation and management of extracorporeal circulation equipment during any medical or surgical procedure where it is necessary to support or replace the patient’s cardiopulmonary/circulatory function.

Responsibilities
  • Safe operation and management of extracorporeal circulation equipment (heart/lung machine, veno‑venous bypass, ventricular assist devices, extra‑corporeal membrane oxygenation) during procedures such as open‑heart surgery, liver transplantation, etc.
  • Set‑up, delivery, management, maintenance, and operation of other relevant ancillary services, devices, and equipment (intra‑aortic balloon pumps, autologous blood recovery systems, ventricular assist devices, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, point‑of‑care laboratory testing equipment).
  • Provide service for adults (18–64 years), older adults (65 years and older), and frail elderly with an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.
  • Respond to after‑hours and weekend calls, including holiday call.
Education/Training/Experience

Graduates of an accredited Perfusion School or, if started prior to April151981, must have at least 2years of college (60 credits) with an emphasis in science.

New graduates and experienced perfusionists are considered for employment. Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred; a bachelor’s degree in a healthcare field is preferred.

Certification

Staff Perfusionists must be Certified Clinical Perfusionists (CCP). New graduates or board‑eligible candidates must take and pass both the written and clinical simulation portions of the certification exam within 1–2years of employment, according to the number of prior attempts.

Board‑eligible candidates who have taken the exam three times or more without passing will not be considered.

Licensing

Required to be licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine or the Pennsylvania State Board of Osteopathic Medicine and be Certified (CCP) by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion.

Qualifications
  • Graduates of an accredited Perfusion School unless started prior to April151981.
  • At least 2years of college with an emphasis in science (if started before 1981).
  • Licensed by Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine, renewed biannually.
  • Certified (CCP) by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion, or certification eligible by the ACP, with annual renewal.

Rotating (United States of America) – Regular Employee.
