Job summary

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. is seeking a Performance Testing Technician to instrument and test vehicles for performance and drivability at Mojave Proving Ground and other sites.

You will maintain equipment, perform data collection with CAN interfaces, MATLAB, ETAS, and Excel, and support root-cause analysis of vehicle and test-setup issues. The ideal candidate has an Associate degree in Automotive Technology, a valid driver's license, 5 years' automotive R&D/testing experience, and

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Automotive Technology or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record.
• 5 years of Automotive Technician experience, especially R&D/testing.
• Experience working in culturally diverse team environments.
• Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Strong time management and organizational skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Instrument and test vehicles for performance and drivability at Mojave Proving Ground and other sites.

Job description

Performance Testing Technician

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Instrument and test vehicles for performance & drivability (WOT time, part-throttle acceleration, at Mojave Proving Ground & other sites
• Equipment maintenance, calibration, & tracking.
• Vehicle hardware & software updates, maintenance, and repair. Vehicle & equipment issue root-cause analysis.
• Instrumentation of test vehicles, including fuel flow meters, g sensors, ETAS equipment, V-box, & thermocouples.
• Installation of data collection devices (laptops, CAN interfaces, analog signals, noise & g measurements, thermocouples, strain/string gauges). To include
• Identification and tapping of CAN wires along with use of Vehicle Spy or CANalyzer software to create competitor CAN databases.
• Testing of vehicles on real roads, at the California Proving Grounds, and other test tracks. Acceleration performance, pedal geometry, etc.
• Real roads to include remote locations (e.g. Death Valley, CA, Fairbanks, AK).
• Test data entry and post-processing via Excel, MATLAB, ETAS-INCA MDA, and/or other software. Confirmation of data legitimacy (sense checks during testingand before submission to engineering).

• Maintenance & repair of test vehicles. To include standard service intervals, cleaning, & fueling. Camouflage installation and removal. Diagnosis and repair of malfunctions. Ordering and tracking of parts & materials.
• Test vehicle updates. To include development parts updates of all kinds, from tires to engine.
• Track, maintain, & calibrate test equipment (sensors, laptops, pedal stops, etc). Order & track equipment, support Finance Team audits of test equipment.
• Cross-functional support of other Chino teams as requested, within the scope defined above
• Shop Environment - exposure to fuel, compressed air/gas, emissions and exhaust fumes; pinching, tripping, electrical, & chemical hazards; bending & stoopingrequired; must be able to lift up 75 lbs. and work with hand power tools. May work outdoors or indoors in extremes of weather and temperature. Safety glasses required.

• Laboratory Environment - exposure to fuel, compressed air/gas, emissions and exhaust fumes. May be exposed to hazardous conditions; must have clear understanding of safety; may have to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Road & Track Environment - exposure to typical dangers of vehicle travel, as well as sharing track environment with vehicles traveling at high speed, or driving vehicles at high speed or in difficult handling conditions. Driving vehicles equipped with accelerator pedal stop or pedal robot installed, sharing track space with other test vehicles.
• Perform administrative functions such as time-card, vacation requests, travel requests, etc.
• Perform additional projects assigned.
• Up to 35% travel, including multi-day trips. Primary travel location is to California Proving Grounds near Mojave, CA.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

• Preferred Associates Degree in Automotive Technology or equivalent
• Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record
• 5 years experience as an Automotive Technician, especially R&D and/or testing
• Experience working in culturally diverse team environment
• Expert or Proficient skills in MS Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
• Proficient time management and organization skills
• Proficient oral and written communication skills
