Job description

Our client, a rapidly growing leader in the renewable energy sector, is seeking a Performance Engineer to support a large portfolio of utility-scale and commercial solar PV and energy storage assets. This role will contribute across the full project lifecycle, from development and construction through commissioning and long-term operations.

Working closely with experienced engineering professionals, you’ll gain hands-on exposure to energy modeling, performance validation, operational analytics, commissioning support, and technical due diligence. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer looking to expand their expertise within the fast-growing clean energy industry.

Key Responsibilities
Energy Performance Analysis & Modeling
  • Support the development and review of solar energy production models using PVsyst or similar software.
  • Analyze key project assumptions, including weather datasets, equipment selections, system losses, clipping, soiling, and degradation factors.
  • Assist in evaluating project performance expectations and identifying potential technical risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Contribute to technical reviews supporting project development, financing, and construction activities.
Performance Testing & Commissioning Support
  • Assist with the preparation and execution of plant capacity and availability testing programs in accordance with industry standards.
  • Analyze operational data and testing results to verify system performance requirements.
  • Review engineering and testing reports related to electrical diagnostics, including IV curve tracing, insulation resistance testing, thermal imaging, and other performance verification methods.
  • Monitor plant monitoring platforms and SCADA systems to identify performance trends, operational issues, and optimization opportunities.
  • Support troubleshooting efforts involving data acquisition systems and monitoring databases.
Project & Stakeholder Coordination
  • Collaborate with EPC contractors, independent engineering consultants, and internal stakeholders throughout project execution.
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, asset management, finance, and project management teams to address performance-related issues.
  • Maintain clear communication with internal and external project partners while ensuring timely resolution of technical inquiries.
  • Assist in compiling production forecasts, operating data, and technical assumptions used in financial models and investment analyses.
  • Support technical due diligence activities for lenders, investors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Prepare performance reports, technical documentation, testing summaries, and engineering memoranda on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Develop knowledge of industry standards and best practices, including NEC, IEEE, IEC, UL, ASTM, and other applicable codes.
  • Contribute to process improvements related to energy modeling, testing methodologies, and performance analysis.
  • Support a strong safety-first culture while adhering to company policies and industry regulations.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Physics, Engineering Management, or a related technical discipline.
  • 1+ year of relevant experience through full-time work, internships, co-ops, or research in renewable energy, solar engineering, project engineering, or performance analysis.
  • Exposure to PVsyst or similar solar energy modeling platforms.
  • Understanding of solar energy production concepts and performance metrics.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred
  • Familiarity with ASTM E2848 or other renewable energy performance testing standards.
  • Exposure to SCADA systems, data acquisition systems (DAS), or plant monitoring platforms.
  • Understanding of solar system diagnostics and testing methodologies.
  • Experience with Salesforce, Procore, databases, or other project management tools.
  • Knowledge of project contracts, technical due diligence, and risk assessment practices.
