Job summary

Human Computer Lab in San Francisco is seeking a hands-on Perception Engineer to build the computer vision and ML system at the core of our robot’s awareness. You will design and deploy perception models that detect people, gestures, and scenes, enabling real-time understanding on edge hardware.

You will collaborate with the CEO and founding team to collect data, train models, optimize performance, and integrate perception with behavior and firmware.

Qualifications

• Degree in a related field (CS/Engineering/Robotics).
• 3+ years hands-on experience in perception, ML, or robotics.
• Proficient in Python; comfortable with C++ for performance-critical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Design, train, and deploy computer vision and perception models for person detection, tracking, pose estimation, gesture recognition, emotion recognition, and scene understanding.
• Develop data collection, labeling, and evaluation pipelines to improve model performance.
• Build perception systems robust to varying lighting, environments, and behaviors; optimize for real-time edge inference.
• Collaborate with CEO and team to integrate perception with robot behavior and firmware.
