Job summary

The Mount Sinai Health System is seeking a Per Diem X-Ray Technician to perform basic and advanced radiologic procedures in line with established protocols. You will evaluate image quality and exercise independent judgment in imaging procedures, recognizing patient conditions requiring immediate action.

Responsibilities include patient preparation, protection practices to minimize exposure, equipment maintenance, and documentation of quality control measures.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of accredited X-Ray Technician/radiologic program with clinical and didactic education.
  • Registration by ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists).

  • Additional clinical experience preferred.

  • Minimizes radiation exposure using protection techniques and shielding.
  • Ensures operation of radiology equipment and performs basic maintenance.
  • Performs clerical duties related to patient registration and placement.
  • Evaluates images for quality prior to release and documents QC measures.
  • Assists in orientation of new X-Ray Technologists to the department.

Job description

The Per Diem X-Ray Technician performs basic and advanced procedures in accordance with established protocols. Evaluates images for technical quality. Must exercise independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the technical performance of imaging procedures and recognize patient conditions requiring immediate action.

Responsibilities
  • Prepares patient for radiological procedures with proper and safe positioning, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into required position and adjusting controls for exposure factor.
  • Minimizes radiation to patient and other staff by practicing radiation protection techniques, using beam-restriction devices, patient shielding and application of knowledge of exposure factors.
  • Ensures operation of radiological equipment by performing preventative maintenance requirements, troubleshooting, calling for repairs, and maintenance of equipment inventory.
  • Performs clerical duties related to registration and placement of patients as required.
  • Evaluates images prior to release to ensure quality.
  • Participates in the performance and documentation of quality control measures.
  • Ensures safety and comfort and patient, family members and other employees.
  • Assists in the orientation of new X-Ray Techs to the department.
  • May provide patient/family education on proper X-ray protocol.
  • Performs other relevant duties as assigned.
