Qualifications

  • RN license and ability to meet agency requirements.
  • Must complete required screenings, CPR, de-escalation and confidentiality training.
  • Knowledge of substance use disorders and co-morbid conditions is preferred.
  • Proficiency in computer charting and patient data entry is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to federal and state privacy regulations (HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2).
  • Perform nursing care, monitor vitals, and administer medications per policy.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to ensure safe patient outcomes.
  • Complete shift reports and maintain accurate medical documentation.
  • Assist with admissions/discharges and patient education on treatment plans.

Program & Location: Plymouth Inpatient Campus
Sign on Bonus: $3,000
Pay Range: $34 - $54.50 per hour (depending on license and experience)
Status: Per Diem

Shift: Morning 7a-3p, Evening 3p-11p, Overnight 11p-7a

Staff Nurse Requirements
  • TB Screening;
  • CPR Certification;
  • Certification in the HPAO approved de-escalation program;
  • Confidentiality training (42 CFR, Part 2 and 45 CFR Parts 160 & 164 HIPAA);
  • Therapeutic Boundaries Training;
  • Ability to care for diverse populations;

  • Ability to solve problems in a timely and therapeutic manner;
  • Knowledge of Substance Use Disorders, Dually Diagnosed (Substance/Mental Health Disorders), Psychiatric Diagnosis and Medical Co-morbidities.
Staff Nurse Duties and Responsibilities
  • Compliance with Federal Regulations regarding 42 CFR Part 2, Confidentiality of Substance Use Disorder and HIPAA Regulations;
  • Adherence to Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals for Behavioral Health;
  • Adherence to DEA regulations and guidelines pertaining to controlled substances, including count, administration and documentation standards;
  • Utilize critical thinking skills and apply best nursing practices in accordance with policy when making decisions and problem solving to provide for best patient care and outcome;
  • Be familiar with best practice standards in line with ASAM criteria inclusive of detox protocols, MAT and/or pharmacology;
  • Documents patient information according to established alcohol/drug protocols as well as any psychiatric/medical conditions per DPH Regulations indicated;
  • Assist the patient in understanding the disease process through education and therapeutic relationship;
  • Understands medication uses, side effects and food-drug interactions;
  • Maintain therapeutic boundaries by setting limits and enforcing rules in a respectful manner;
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team;
  • Triage patient issues for the attending Practitioner;
  • Responsible for HPAO continued education in the field of substance use disorders;
  • Attends supervision with assigned supervisor twice monthly and/or as needed based on status or concerns;
  • Attend mandatory meetings and trainings;
  • May be mandated to cover designated program/shifts based upon safe staffing needs;
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Nurse Manager, Program Director, Site Director, and/or DON.
Inpatient Services Specific Responsibilities
  • Perform shift specific duties to ensure the unit is cleaned and properly stocked with necessary medical supplies;
  • Delegates and oversees the work of Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (Recovery Specialists/RS) as appropriate;
  • Provide a comprehensive, concise shift report for all incoming nursing and Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (RS) staff;
  • Complete Admission and Discharge Assessments and procedures;
  • Monitor and treat patients who have co-occurring medical/psychiatric illness;
  • Assess the physiological and behavioral health status of the patients each shift;
  • Conduct controlled substance count and syringe count (when applicable) at the change of every shift (with one on-coming and one off-going nurse) and sign the controlled substance register;
  • Monitor vital signs and assess withdrawal signs and symptoms per protocol;
  • Administer routine PRN medications according to the nursing standards of care;
  • Fax medication orders to pharmacies and alert MD/NP when prior-authorizations are required for medications;
  • Conducts suicide risk assessment as needed and communicates information to practitioner;
  • Review medications received from pharmacy;
  • Conduct a nursing assessment/physical assessment including medication reconciliation and treatment plan on patients admitted to the unit;
  • Provide psycho-educational groups on medication awareness and effects as well as other subjects associated with addiction/mental illness, if required;
  • Ability to engage in verbal de-escalation of patients and provide appropriate behavioral interventions to maintain safety;
  • Maintain therapeutic boundaries by setting limits and enforcing rules in a respectful manner;
  • Triage medication concerns for the attending practitioner;
  • Complete all required shift tasks delegated for monitoring, auditing, and compliance (logs, reports as assigned);
  • Audit unit supplies and submit orders as needed to supervisor;
  • Coordination with nutritionist and dietary department for any patient nutritional needs, including allergies, preferences, nutrition screening concerns;
  • Report any environmental/safety concerns to the supervisor immediately;
  • Complete chart audits as requested to ensure documentation for nursing is completed timely;
  • Maintain active and current CPI training;
  • Complete patient observation checks, 1:1 patient observations as needed for milieu monitoring.
Staff Nurse Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited professional school of Nursing;
  • Must maintain current license status and be in good standing with the Board of Nursing;
  • Certified Addiction Registered Nurse and/or Psychiatric Registered Nurse certification preferred.
