Job summary

Qualifications

• Medical degree from an accredited institution.
• Board certified or eligible to practice in radiation oncology.
• Current medical license to practice in Washington State.
• DEA, NPI and prescriptive authority for licensed practice.
• BLS certification for healthcare providers.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients with imaging, pathology and exams to plan radiation therapy.
• Design precise radiation regimens using advanced planning and imaging.
• Coordinate care with medical/surgical oncology, radiology and pathology.
• Order, interpret and follow up on diagnostic tests and imaging.
• Explain treatments, risks and outcomes clearly to patients.
• Supervise radiation therapy delivery and ensure safety per protocols.
• Document patient interactions in the EMR and participate in tumor boards.
• Engage in quality improvement and ongoing education; pursue trials if applicable.

Radiation Oncology Physicians at MultiCare Cancer Institute deliver comprehensive radiotherapy services for treatment of cancer and benign conditions using advanced modalities such as IMRT, VMAT, IGRT, SBRT, and HDR brachytherapy, along with oversight and delivery of radiopharmaceuticals.

The department operates within a multidisciplinary framework, with active collaboration across medical and surgical oncology, radiology, pathology, and supportive care. Physicians are responsible for upholding clinical excellence, supporting quality improvement initiatives, and contributing to a culture of safety, teamwork, and patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

• Conducts clinical evaluations through clinical exams, imaging, and pathology to determine suitability for radiation therapy.
• Design precise, individualized radiation regimens using advanced planning software and imaging technologies.
• Work closely with medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, radiologists, and other specialists to coordinate comprehensive cancer care.
• Order, interpret, and follow up on diagnostic tests and imaging.
• Explain treatment options, procedures, potential side effects, and expected outcomes in a clear and compassionate manner.
• Supervise the administration of radiation therapy, ensuring accuracy, safety, and adherence to prescribed protocols.
• Document all patient interactions and clinical decisions in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Engage in peer review, protocol development, and continuous improvement initiatives to uphold high standards of care.
• Pursue ongoing education and training to remain informed about emerging technologies, techniques, and evidence-based practices.
• Participate in clinical trials or research initiatives aimed at improving outcomes and techniques (if applicable).
• Participate in tumor boards, care conferences, and quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Medical degree (M.D. or D.O.) from an accredited institution
• Board certified/eligible at time of employment
• Current licensure in Washington State by the time of employment
• DEA, NPI & prescriptive authority
• Current BLS for Healthcare Providers certification by the American Heart Association

Pay and Benefit Expectations

We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $313.56 - $313.56 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant's years of experience align.
