Under the direct supervision of a physician, the (per diem) Physician’s Associate provides diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive health care services. The associate offers a broad spectrum of comprehensive medical services, treating patients with physical ailments ranging from superficial injuries to acute medical disorders. The case mix primarily includes routine cases in a structured environment with ample supervision.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient health by interview and by obtaining and/or updating medical history. Document patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
• Perform physical examinations and provide treatment and counsel. Recognize and evaluate patients who require the immediate attention of a physician and, when necessary, initiate emergency medical treatment without supervision.
• Determine abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests and laboratory studies. Follow up on X‑rays and laboratory data and interpret diagnostic test results.
• Perform therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing, post‑operative care and management of wound care and infections. Utilize diagnostic techniques, such as observation, palpation, percussion or auscultation.
• Counsel patients regarding prescribed therapeutic regimens and health maintenance.
• Maintain accurate and complete patient records. Develop and implement patient management plans, record procedure and progress notes and discharge summaries, and assist in provision of continuity of care.
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment by ensuring compliance with infection‑control policies, protocols and other safety procedures and regulations.
• Develop and provide education related to pre‑ and post‑operative evaluation and treatment plans.
• Provide oversight of all surgical cases related to scheduling and medical clearance.
• Provide assistance to physicians during surgery or complicated medical procedures.
• May prescribe medication.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

• Completion of a NYS‑approved program for training of physician assistant/associate studies.
• Previous urological experience preferred, but not required.
• Registration with New York State as Physician Assistant/Associate and certification with the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant/Associate.
• High levels of analytical ability required to effectively and expeditiously diagnose and treat medical/surgical problems under the supervision of a physician.
• Interaction with various internal hospital medical, administrative and professional staff in routine clinical duties.
• High degree of responsibility required for daily contact with patients and their families.
• Ability to work independently.

Compensation

The salary range for the role is $70–$70 per hour. Actual salaries depend on experience, education, and operational need. This rate does not include bonuses or other forms of compensation.
