Your Role on the Team

Position Summary:

Perform patient history & physical, consultation assessment for prospective patients. Order necessary tests, procedures, and therapy for prospective patients. Maintain daily contact with surgeons in order to keep them abreast of changing situations while they are away from facility. Carry out additional /specific orders by surgeon for future patients. Instruct and counsel patients concerning surgical issues and ensure patient and family members understand the process ahead. First and second assist on all adult cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgery. This should include saphenous vein harvesting (traditional or endoscopic), radial artery harvesting. Assisting anesthesia/OR staff to expedite case. See patients daily. Write appropriate orders, notes and tests. Discharge patients.

Required Qualifications:

Current CA Physician Assistant license;

Current BLS;

Current ACLS

  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Cardiac Surgery experience.
  • Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms

Physical Requirements: Position involves standing and walking for long periods of time, approximately 75% of the workday. Sitting is approximately 25%; Must have the dexterity, coordination and visual and auditory acuity to perform all job responsibilities; Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; Must be free from signs of illness and infection.
