We are searching for a Per-Diem Phlebotomist with great patient service skills. This position is per diem with variable hours, including one weekend per month at our River North office. The role will involve floating between our Mokena, Hinsdale, and Warrenville offices.

The Phlebotomist will promote the company’s mission, goals, and performance standards for the phlebotomy lab. The role requires an understanding of fundamental phlebotomy procedures, ensuring compliance with all policies and protocols. The position involves working with our clinical staff to address patient needs promptly and accurately.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Phlebotomy lab:
  • Perform venipuncture and collect specimens for testing using proper technique and Universal Precautions.
  • Adhere to laboratory instructions for specimen collection, storage, and transport.
  • Follow insurance requirements as needed.
  • Confirm orders in Artworks to ensure accuracy of specimens collected.
  • Ensure that required consent forms for testing are completed.
  • Verify identifiers with patients.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of lab changes and requirements.
  • Process patient specimens, including blood, urine, and tissue samples.
Additional patient care tasks:
  • Collaborate with nursing team to address patient needs promptly.
  • Provide anticipatory guidance regarding timelines for results and further instructions.
  • Maintain clinical areas:
    • Keep phlebotomy lab and other clinical areas clean and stocked.
    • Sterilize equipment.
    • Ensure timely preventive maintenance and repairs on clinical equipment.
    • Dispose of biohazard and sharps materials properly.
Computers and clerical tasks:
  • Utilize EMR systems to access clinical information, process lab orders, and document test results.
  • Use ArtWorks to access demographic and insurance information.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality following HIPAA guidelines.
  • Follow OSHA guidelines to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Adhere to all FCI standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Follow incident reporting policies and procedures.
  • Complete continuing education quarterly.
  • Review engaged MD Ovulation Induction and Zika protocols.
  • Travel to other clinic locations as needed for weekend coverage.
Accountability and professionalism:
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with patients, physicians, and staff.
  • Demonstrate problem-solving, multi-tasking, and accountability behaviors.
  • Attend continuing education and training opportunities to stay current.
  • Assist with training new lab staff.

FCI requires all applicants to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before starting employment. Proof of vaccination must be provided. Exemptions may be granted for medical or religious reasons.

Minimum qualifications:
  • High school diploma
  • Certificate or diploma in phlebotomy
  • CPR certification
  • Technical skills in venipuncture
  • Experience in a fast-paced medical office setting
  • Proficiency with EMR systems (e.g., Artworks, Quest, LabCorp, ACL, Genetic Testing)
  • Adherence to safety, sanitation, and confidentiality standards
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
