Kaweah Health in Visalia, CA seeks a Pharmacy Technician in the SRCC Medical Oncology department to support medication preparation, inventory management, and regulatory compliance. Under pharmacist supervision, you will assist in sterile compounding, labeling, and distributing medications across units.

Key duties include aseptic IV prep, unit-dose labeling for neonatal/pediatric patients, equipment maintenance, and ensuring accurate medication tracing.

Qualifications

  • Current California Pharmacy Technician registration or Intern Pharmacist status.
  • Minimum six months of pharmacy technician experience.
  • Competent in IV compounding using aseptic technique.
  • Knowledge of sterile technique, drug incompatibilities and stabilities, math computations, weights, volumes, concentrations, and dilutions.
  • Ability to accurately prepare cytotoxic preparations and perform accurate medication tracing.
  • Proficiency with Pyxis MedStations and scanning technology.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately and aseptically prepare, label, and compound total parenteral nutrition, piggybacks, large volume intravenous mixtures, epidural preparations, and other medications.
  • Prepare and label unit dose medication for neonatal and pediatric patients.
  • Thoroughly clean, decontaminate, calibrate, and document all clean room equipment as per established procedures.
  • Prepare cytotoxic preparations and maintain sterile technique.
  • Assist pharmacist in providing safe pharmacy services and recognize situations that exceed technician authority, referring to the pharmacist when necessary.
  • Obtain pharmacist verification prior to distributing medications to areas.
  • Answer telephone calls courteously and professionally; provide timely follow‑up on requests.
  • Accurately fill medication orders per pharmacist request or established protocols.
  • Assist in stock control: monitor low stock items, communicate with buyers, prepare orders for off‑site areas, process returns to wholesaler, and remove expired medication.
  • Repackage medications and maintain labeling and policy standards, ensuring accurate expiration dates.
  • Load and refill automated drug delivery cabinets (e.g., Pyxis MedStations) and utilize scanning technology.
  • Report defective equipment to IT and ensure SALAD medications are stored in required proximity.
  • Input patient charges and credits into billing systems.
  • Deliver medications to nursing stations in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Perform rounds to identify unused or discontinued medications; empty return bins as assigned.
  • Document refrigerator temperatures and other inventory logs consistently.
  • Maintain records, generate reports, and assist with medication room inspections.
  • Participate in pharmacy staff meetings, training, education, and orientation programs.
  • Support medication-related regulatory, quality, and safety work, including reporting to ADE committee and ID related reporting.
  • Reconcile and file controlled medication records; manage controlled medication loads, repackaging, and waste disposal.
  • Coordinate return of expired or incorrect controlled medications to the reverse distributor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the pharmacy manager.

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician (PharmTech) in the SRCC Medical Oncology department at Kaweah Health will perform tasks within their scope necessary for the operation of the pharmacy.
