Job summary

University Medical Center of Southern Nevada (UMC) is seeking a dedicated Environmental Services technician to join its hospital operations. This onsite role performs housekeeping duties across patient rooms, offices, operating rooms and lobbies, ensuring a clean, safe environment in a high‑acuity setting.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least 6 months in janitorial work; 1 year EVS experience in hospital/acute care and/or hotel settings is preferred; experience

Qualifications

• Equivalent to graduation from high school and six (6) months of experience in janitorial or custodial work.
• 1 year recent documented EVS experience in a Hospital/Acute Care Setting.
• 1 year recent documented EVS experience in Hotel Industry.
• Experience with Isolation Protocols.
• Experience with biohazard waste, handling & cleaning of infectious materials, when necessary.
• Availability to work ALL shifts, including graveyard, seven (7) days a week, as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform housekeeping duties including cleaning patient rooms, offices, operating rooms and lobbies.
• Change bed linens; wash, launder and replace as needed.
• Sweep, vacuum, mop and buff floors; dispose of trash and hazardous materials.
• Follow isolation and infection-control procedures.

Position Summary:

Performs housekeeping duties. Duties include cleaning patient rooms, offices, operating rooms and lobbies; changing bed linens; sweeping, vacuuming, mopping and buffing floors; and, removing trash and hazardous materials.

Education/Experience:

Equivalent to graduation from high school and six (6) months of experience in janitorial or custodial work.

PREFERENCES MUST BE CLEARLY LISTED WITHIN THE APPLICATION EXPERIENCE:

• 1 year recent documented EVS experience in a Hospital/Acute Care Setting.


• 1 year recent documented EVS experience in Hotel Industry.


• Experience with Isolation Protocols.


• Experience with biohazard waste, handling & cleaning of infectious materials, when necessary.

• Position may require a written and / or oral exam for core competencies.

Knowledge of:

Industrial cleaning supplies; proper cleaning techniques; department and hospital safety practices and procedures; patient rights; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, usage and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.

Skill in:

Mixing cleaning chemicals; safe use of hand equipment; working without close supervision in standard working situations; making beds and changing bed linen; proper lifting techniques; using equipment such as vacuum cleaners, mops, buffers and dollies; communicating effectively with people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard equipment, ability to operate hand equipment, stamina to remain standing and walk for extended periods of time, strength to lift and maneuver objects, and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in-person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects. Incumbents are exposed to diseases and hazardous materials and are required to contain infectious diseases and other contaminations such as lice.
