A leading healthcare provider is seeking a Registered Dental Hygienist to perform dental hygiene procedures and support preventive programs in a culturally sensitive manner. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, RDH license, and experience in a clinical setting. Responsibilities include providing individual oral hygiene instruction, maintaining health records, and coordinating community dental programs. This role requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
SUMMARY:
Applicant must possess a high school diploma and be a Registered Dental Hygienist. Two years’ experience in a clinical setting with knowledge of RPMS and Dentrix Systems. Provides dental hygiene procedures such as scaling and root planing, prophy, fluoride application, sealants, and oral hygiene instruction. Provides dental hygiene services with age-appropriate techniques and considerations. Maintains oral hygiene recall system. Reviews health history and alerts dentist of changes. Takes blood pressure. Makes referrals to the physician as appropriate. Provides individual oral hygiene instruction on an ongoing basis, emphasizing the specific needs of each patient. Helps to provide an ongoing preventive dentistry program through group educational presentations (including audio-visual aids), dental screenings, and in-service training for CHRs and other departments as requested. Coordinates dental booths for community programs. Must be able to work with the Indian community and be sensitive to Indian culture and needs.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Note: Duties performed by a Registered Dental Hygienist are subject to applicable regulations, including restrictions outlined in Section 1066(a) and others. An RDH may perform duties assigned to Dental Assistants and Registered Dental Assistants under supervision of a licensed dentist, including procedures like root planning, polishing restorations, oral cytology, applying sealants, and preliminary examinations (periodontal charting, soft tissue exams, lesion charting, occlusion classification, myofunctional evaluation). RDHs may also perform certain duties under direct supervision, such as taking impressions, applying topical fluoride, and removing sutures, among others. This position requires working evenings and weekends as needed and other duties as assigned.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited Registered Dental Hygienist program.
Experience: At least 1 year as an RDH; 2 years in a clinical setting with knowledge of RPMS and Dentrix Systems.
License: Valid California RDH license.
Certification: Current CPR certification compliant with AHA or Red Cross guidelines, obtainable prior to orientation.
Ability: To work with diverse patient groups, including the Indian community, and be sensitive to cultural needs.
Salary Range: $40.00 - $50.00 D.O.E
Clinic Location: San Manuel Clinic as assigned (Morongo Indian Health Clinic, San Manuel Indian Health Clinic, Soboba Indian Health Clinic).
Indian Preference: Preference in employment and training is given to qualified Indian candidates as per legal requirements, with appropriate verification submitted by applicants.
