Job summary

Outreach is a non-profit organization that provides behavioral health services and treatment. The Substance Abuse Counselor role reports to program leadership and carries a range of duties from assessments to counseling across individual, group and family formats.

The position requires adherence to Medicaid compliance and strong collaboration with referents; crisis and administrative tasks are part of daily responsibilities, with coverage for staff absences as needed.

Qualifications

• CASAC or higher preferred.
• Experience working in clinics and with outreach is a plus.
• Ability to collaborate with diverse groups of people.

Responsibilities

• Conducts assessments, intakes and participates in level of care determinations by gathering data and orienting clients to rights and program expectations.
• Completes administrative procedures for admission and assists in development of treatment plans.
• Facilitates admission/referral to other programs or agencies as needed.
• Provide individual, group, and/or family counseling in a professional, ethical manner.
• Manages all aspects of assigned caseload with attention to levels of care and clinical interventions.
• Provide backup coverage in the event of staff absences.
• Complete documentation and reports in a timely manner; inform leadership of issues.
• Participate in staff meetings, case conferences and unit meetings.
• Maintain relationships with referents and collateral contacts through timely responses.
• Maintain communication with clinical staff to integrate services.
• Conduct toxicology testing as needed.
• Ensure compliance with Medicaid and agency policies; report violations to supervisor.

Position: Substance Abuse Counselor

Job Scope:

• Conducts assessments, intakes and participates in level of care determinations by gathering appropriate data, orienting client to his/her rights and responsibilities and program expectations.
• Completes necessary administrative procedures for admission to treatment and, as appropriate, assists in development of treatment plan.
• Facilitates admission/referral to other programs or agencies for clients in need of services not offered at Unit.
• Provide individual, group, and/or family counseling services in a professional, ethical and competent manner.
• Manages all aspects of assigned caseload during treatment, with special attention to appropriate levels of care and appropriate clinical interventions.
• Provide backup coverage in the event of other clinical staff absences.
• Complete all needed documentation and reports in a timely manner. Informs Program leadership (Director, Asst. Director, and/or Coordinator) of any problems or anticipated inability to meet deadlines.
• Actively participate in staff meetings, case conferences and other unit meetings.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with referents and other collateral contacts (i.e., Probation, Parole, CPS, managed care, E.A.P.’s, courts, etc.) through timely written, phone, computerized or other responses.
• Maintain communication and teamwork with clinical staff to integrate and enhance clinical services.
• Conducts toxicology testing, as needed
• Exercise due diligence in the delivery of quality care in line with agency Medicaid Compliance Plan and systems of accountability.
• Insure communication through the compliance officer and/or the supervisory structure of any violation of non-compliance with the agency’s Medicaid compliance plan and personnel policy and procedure.

• CASAC, CASAC-T, CRC, LMHC, LMSW, LMFT, LCSW or higher preferred.
• Experience working in 822 clinics, as well as community outreach preferred
