Job summary

Heywood Medical Group in Gardner, MA is seeking a per diem phlebotomist to accurately identify patients, collect specimens, and prepare samples for testing. The role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety, and the ability to work day and evening shifts, including weekends.

Qualifications

Minimum Education: Associate of Science in Biology (preferred).
Minimum Work Experience: Previous phlebotomy experience preferred; six months to one year experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Identifies patient correctly by wristband or name check.
Verifies physician orders to ensure tests are correct.
Reviews testing requirements prior to sample collection.
Communicates urgent or stat specimens to staff for turnaround.
Performs specimen packaging and ensures proper handling and storage.
Assists in specimen processing and prepares slides and stains for review.
May perform waived CLIA testing after training and competency proof.
Assists Central Processing with sample handling and order entry.
Educates patients and staff on proper specimen collection procedures.
