University Medical Center of Southern Nevada seeks a Nursing Assistant to support the nursing team in a high-acuity, Magnet-recognized academic medical center in Las Vegas. Under RN supervision, you assist with routine patient care and maintain a safe, clean environment.

Preferred candidates have a high school diploma and CNA certification; BLS is required. One year CNA experience in acute care is a plus. We value compassionate communication and teamwork in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

  • Must have high school diploma and at least 6 months of clinical experience.
  • State of Nevada Nursing Assistant certification required.
  • BLS certification from AHA accepted.
  • Preference given to applicants with 1 year CNA experience in an acute care setting.
  • Knowledge of CPR, medical terminology, infection control, and safety practices.
  • Ability to communicate with diverse populations and work under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, assists with routine nursing care and patient environment.
  • Performs and documents vital signs; assists with activities of daily living.
  • Maintains patient safety and comfort; documents observations.
  • Assists with transferring, positioning and mobility as directed by nursing staff.
  • Ensures clean and safe patient environment and equipment handling.

Job description

As an academic medical center with a rich history of providing life-saving treatment in Southern Nevada, UMC serves as the anchor hospital of the Las Vegas Medical District, offering Nevada’s highest level of care to promote successful medical outcomes for patients.

Position Summary:

Under direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, assists the nursing staff in performing routine nursing care duties, and to provide assistance in the care of patients and their environments.

Education/Experience:

Equivalent to graduation from high school and six (6) months of clinical experience.

Licensing/Certification Requirements:

Valid Certification by the State of Nevada Board of Nursing as a Nursing Assistant. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accepted by the American Heart Association (AHA).

Preferences will be given to applicants who document the following:
  • A minimum of one (1) year of recent, documented CNA experience in an acute care setting
Knowledge of:

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation; operation of general office equipment; basic medical terminology; basic mathematics; medical equipment; and universal precautions; department and hospital safety practices; patient rights; infection control practices and policies; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures; age specific patient care practices.

Skill in:

Performing and documenting vital signs; measuring and recording input and output; providing and assisting with activities of daily living; using good body mechanics; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds under stressful conditions; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard equipment, including stamina to remain standing and/or walk for extended periods of time and strength to assist in the examination and treatment of varied patients, vision to read printed materials and a VDT screen, and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
