Edgartown is seeking a Building Inspector responsible for performing building inspections under the direction of the Building Commissioner. This role requires enforcement of Massachusetts building codes and town zoning ordinances, along with examining approved building plans to ensure consistency with permitted work.
The ideal candidate will document inspection results and communicate with contractors regarding inspection statuses. High school diploma and a valid Massachusetts driver’s license are required, along with a Construction Supervisor’s License. Flexible hours available.
Under the direction of the Building Commissioner, this position is responsible for performing building inspections in the field. This involves enforcement of Massachusetts building codes and town zoning ordinances. In addition, the inspector will need to examine the approved building plans to ensure the work performed is consistent with permitted work; document inspection results, communicate with contractors to convey status of inspection, and review with the Building Commissioner as required.
Hours and days are flexible. Work involves judgment in situations that demand immediate corrective action. High school diploma, valid Massachusetts driver’s license and Construction Supervisor’s License required at hire.
