Job summary

Penn Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Health System is seeking a Per Diem Anatomic Pathology Technician II to join the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The role supports Surgical Pathology, Cytopathology and Medical Pathology, and Morgue operations under supervision.

Responsibilities include maintaining lab equipment, reviewing specimens, processing slides, managing specimen logistics, and ensuring safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 5+ years experience as Anatomic Pathology Technician I required.
• Enrollment in accredited Cytotechnology, Histotechnology, Medical Technology/Technician program, or related lab program preferred.
• Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Replenish, clean and maintain tissue processors and embedding center.
• Review patient samples and worklists to create slides and select blocks.
• Manage sending/receiving surgical samples to satellites and prepare testing kits.
• Monitor inventory and hazards, restock supplies and communicate needs to supervisor.
• Handle inquiries and communicate with lab staff in a professional manner.
• Ensure compliance with hospital and Lab Safety regulations and complete mandatory education.
• Monitor Temptrak refrigerators/freezers and address alarms.
• Use independent judgement to match orders with pathology inventories.
