Job summary

Memorial Physician Practices in Austin is looking for a Director of People Services to lead HR initiatives that support a workforce of over 200 employees. You will work directly with the CEO to foster a people-first culture and drive employee engagement, recruitment, and compliance.

The ideal candidate has at least 7 years of HR leadership experience, preferably in healthcare, and a strong ability to influence and develop others. Comprehensive benefits and a positive work environment are offered.

This is more than an HR leadership role. It's an opportunity to shape the future of healthcare in Texas by nurturing a positive, engaged and high performing workforce. Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with C‑Suite, the Director of People Services plays a critical role in fostering a people first culture that supports more than 200 dedicated employees. With one highly functioning HR support professional as a direct report, this leader will drive initiatives that enhance employee engagement, support recruitment & retention, and ensure alignment with the hospital's strategic objectives.

How you'll contribute
  • Serve as the senior HR leader for the hospital and strategic advisor to the CEO and executive leadership team.
  • Partner with leaders across the organization to align workforce strategies with business and operational goals.
  • Lead employee engagement, retention, succession planning, and culture initiatives.
  • Oversee labor relations activities, including administration of collective bargaining agreements and union partnerships.
  • Participate in and/or lead union negotiations, grievance management, and employee relations matters.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to leaders on performance management, investigations, corrective action, and conflict resolution.
  • Direct recruitment, onboarding, workforce planning, and retention efforts to support staffing needs.
  • Manage day‑to‑day HR operations, ensuring compliance with employment laws, policies, and healthcare regulations.
  • Oversee HR audits, reporting, documentation, leaves of absence, accommodations, and policy administration.
  • Analyze workforce metrics and trends to identify opportunities for improved engagement, retention, and operational effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement action plans based on workforce data and organizational needs.
  • Supervise and develop HR team members while fostering a positive, high‑performance work environment.
  • Lead employee development, leadership development, and training initiatives across the facility.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage departmental budgets and HR‑related expenditures.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies while supporting a people‑first culture.
What we're looking for

Applicants should have a bachelor's degree, preferably in the areas of Human Resources, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Organizational Leadership, or related field. Additional requirements include:

Required
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive Human Resources leadership experience.
  • Experience leading HR functions across multiple disciplines including:
    • Employee Relations
    • Labor Relations
    • Recruitment
    • Compliance
    • Performance Management
  • Experience managing investigations and employee relations issues.
  • Experience advising senior leadership teams.
  • Experience managing HR operations and compliance functions.
  • Leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to influence leaders and drive organizational initiatives.
  • Experience supervising HR staff.
  • Strong communication, coaching, and conflict resolution skills.
Preferred
  • Acute care hospital experience strongly preferred.
  • Healthcare HR leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting hospitals or healthcare systems with 100+ employees.
  • Direct union experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience administering collective bargaining agreements.
  • Experience handling grievances and arbitration preparation.
  • Experience participating in or leading union negotiations.
  • HR Certifications (SHRM‑CP, SHRM‑SCP, PHR, SPHR)
  • Rural healthcare experience.
  • Multi‑union environment experience.
  • Workforce planning and retention strategy experience.
  • Experience leading culture transformation and engagement initiatives.
  • HRIS and workforce analytics experience.
