Job summary

SAGE is seeking a People Relations Generalist to support the full employee lifecycle, including recruiting, onboarding, benefits administration, and employee relations. The role requires effective communication, discretion, and the ability to handle routine matters within policy while escalating complex issues to the Director of People Relations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 2-3 years’ relevant People Relations, HR, or People Relations experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication, organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary People Relations resource for team members and escalate complex issues when needed.
  • Manage full cycle recruiting and onboarding/offboarding processes.
  • Administer employee benefits and leave programs, including FMLA documentation and invoicing.
  • Maintain accurate employee information across HR systems and conduct routine audits for data integrity.
  • Support compensation processes by analyzing data and processing salary adjustments.
  • Provide guidance to managers on routine People Relations matters and escalate high-risk issues.
  • Support employee relations matters and workplace investigations as needed.
  • Coordinate training and development activities and maintain training records.
  • Collaborate with leaders to update job descriptions and ensure consistent policy application.
  • Lead People Relations projects and improve processes and the employee experience.

People Relations Generalist

Executive: Vice President of Operations

Reports to: Director of People Relations

The People Relations Generalist is a highly visible position that engages with team members and leaders at all levels of the company and plays a vital role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the People Relations function.

This role provides broad support across the employee lifecycle, including recruiting, onboarding and offboarding, benefits, leave administration, compensation support, employee records, and People Relations programs. The Generalist also serves as a resource to employees and managers on routine People Relations matters, including policy interpretation, performance concerns, workplace issues, and employee relations.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a high degree of integrity, confidentiality, urgency, sound judgment, and strong communication skills. This position is expected to independently manage routine matters within established policies and practices while appropriately escalating complex, sensitive, or high-risk issues to the Director of People Relations.

Position Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary People Relations resource for team members, responding to questions regarding policies, benefits, pay, leave, and other employment matters, while appropriately escalating complex or sensitive issues.
  • Manage full cycle recruiting and support the employee lifecycle, including recruiting, new hire orientation, onboarding, offboarding, and exit interviews.
  • Administer employee benefits and leave programs, including enrollments, benefit invoice reconciliation, FMLA requests, required documentation, employee communication, and tracking.
  • Maintain accurate employee information across HR systems and records, process employee changes, and conduct routine audits to ensure data integrity, compliance, and complete documentation.
  • Support compensation processes by analyzing compensation data, processing approved salary adjustments, and conducting audits to ensure accuracy.
  • Provide guidance to managers on routine People Relations matters, including policy interpretation, employee concerns, performance documentation, and corrective action, escalating higher-risk matters to the Director of People Relations.
  • Support employee relations matters and workplace investigations through employee intake, fact-finding, documentation, follow-up, and other activities appropriate to the complexity of the matter.
  • Coordinate and support company training and development activities, including scheduling, participation tracking, training records, and maintenance of training resources.
  • Partner with leaders to develop and update job descriptions and support consistent application of People Relations policies, practices, and processes.
  • Lead and support assigned People Relations projects and organizational initiatives, identifying opportunities to improve processes and the employee experience.
  • Maintain People Relations communications and resources, including the department inbox and company intranet, ensuring information is timely, accurate, and accessible.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the People Relations function.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 2-3 years’ relevant People Relations, Human Resources, or People Relations experience.
  • Strong oral and written communication, organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to provide clear guidance on routine People Relations processes and effectively support team members.
  • Experience managing competing priorities and working in fast-paced support environments.
  • Experience with Paylocity or a comparable HRIS preferred.
  • Frequently required to sit, type, handle small objects, and communicate by phone or in person.
  • Ability to work on in-office projects upon request.
  • Must maintain reliable, fast internet (50Mbps down / 5Mbps up per person)
