Job description

Who We Are

Notion is the collaborative AI workspace where teams and agents think together. We're building one place where your knowledge, projects, meetings, and AI tools live side by side, so work is faster, clearer, and less fragmented. Millions of individuals, small teams, and large companies run their work on Notion.

Notinos (our employees) are customer zero in bringing this future of work to life. We care about craft, building things that last, and the belief that great work is still fundamentally human. Our goal isn’t to ship the next feature. Each and every team of Notinos is working to set the standard for how humans work together in the AI era. From building a business’s system of record to making and managing AI agents to automating away the busy work, we care deeply about giving our customers more time for their life’s work.

About the Role:

The first-day setup that goes smoothly. The benefits question answered with care. The employee change that reaches Payroll right on time. These moments shape how it feels to work at Notion, and People Operations helps make them happen.

As a People Operations Generalist, you’ll provide thoughtful operational support across People programs and processes, owning the critical touchpoints that make our team members feel supported throughout their journey. From the moment someone accepts their offer through their growth and transitions at Notion, you'll ensure every process runs smoothly. You may contribute to employee lifecycle, benefits, global mobility, HR systems, and other areas. You’ll manage work from intake through completion, keep records and handoffs accurate, and help employees and partners navigate processes with clear updates and follow-through.

This is a hands-on role for someone who can independently manage routine workflows, recognize when a case needs specialist or approval support, and adapt as responsibilities shift. The mix of work may evolve over time, creating opportunities to support different teams and build breadth across People Operations.

This role can be based in either San Francisco or New York City. We work from our offices on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays (our Anchor Days) because we do our best thinking and building together in person. We’re looking for someone who’s excited to work alongside the team during those days.

What You’ll Achieve:
  • Make the everyday feel effortless. Process assigned HRIS and employee-lifecycle transactions; maintain clean People data in our HRIS through audits, validation checks, and partner handoffs that prevent downstream reporting issues

  • Be a helpful first stop. Act as the Tier 1 Support for employees. Triage and resolve questions or requests submitted to our ticketing system

  • Keep benefits running smoothly. Coordinate routine benefits transactions and employee update; support compliance workflows, respond to employee questions and requests; partner with benefits providers, HRIS, and Payroll to resolve eligibility or data discrepancies

  • Help people navigate global moves. Initiate and track immigration and relocation cases, milestones, and provide stakeholder follow-ups. Partner with employees, candidates, People Partners, Recruiting, hiring managers, and immigration counsel to keep cases moving.

  • Bring care and judgment to each case. Resolve routine cases using documented guidance and route exceptions, policy decisions, or sensitive matters to the appropriate specialist or approver.

  • Keep teams connected and work moving. Be a reliable partner to cross-functional teams, including Global Mobility, Recruiting, Legal, Finance, People Partners, and IT on all things People Operations

  • Build trust through accuracy. Manage compliance - SOC2, maintain employee files, support regular audits, etc.

  • Leave processes better than you found them. Support ad-hoc projects that improve our processes and operations. Support an employee experience that is thoughtful and consistent

Skills You’ll Need to Bring:
  • 2+ years in People Operations, benefits administration, global mobility coordination, or a related service-operations role.

  • Workday proficiency required, with hands-on experience managing employee data, processing employee lifecycle changes, and generating reports to support team

  • Experience managing and resolving employee inquiries through a case-tracking system or ticketing queue using platforms such as Zendesk, ServiceNow, or other systems

  • Experience creating or improving SOPs through documentation and operational reports

  • Confidence managing repeatable workflows independently, prioritizing competing requests, following through on details, and learning new workstreams as priorities change.

  • Strong service orientation and clear, empathetic written communication, with strong triage and prioritization skills

  • Comfort working with data: maintaining data accuracy, building simple metrics, and communicating findings clearly

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive employee data with discretion

  • Ability to coordinate across employees, vendors, counsel, and internal partners

  • A process-improvement mindset: you notice patterns and look for ways to make support more accurate and easier to navigate

Notion is committed to providing highly competitive cash compensation, equity, and benefits. The compensation offered for this role will be based on multiple factors such as location, the role’s scope and complexity, and the candidate’s experience and expertise, and may vary from the range provided below. For roles based in San Francisco or New York City, the estimated base salary range for this role is $53.36 - $59.61 hourly, annualized to a base salary range of $111,000 - $124,000 per year.

A Note on AI

You don’t need deep AI expertise for every role, but we do expect every Notino to be intellectually curious, drawn to tinkering and discovery, and excited to use AI as a real collaborator in their work. For some roles, AI fluency is a core requirement — when that’s the case, we'll say so explicitly in the qualifications. People who thrive here don’t treat AI as a novelty. They use it to think better, and make their work easier for others to build on.
