Nooks is seeking a detail-oriented People Operations Generalist to build and run the People infrastructure as we scale. You’ll own HRIS, onboarding, benefits, leaves, immigration, Total Rewards administration, and employee lifecycle operations.

This role emphasizes simplifying complex processes, data-driven decision making, and delivering a great employee experience. The position is hybrid with 3 days onsite in San Francisco.

About the role:
Location: Hybrid / 3 days Onsite - San Francisco, CA

We're looking for a detail-oriented and ambitious People Operations Generalist to to help build and run the People infrastructure that supports our team as we scale. You'll own and support many of the operational programs employees interact with throughout their time at Nooks - including HRIS, onboarding, benefits, leaves, immigration, Total Rewards administration, and employee lifecycle operations.

This role is a great fit for someone who loves making complicated things simple. You're highly organized, operationally rigorous, and genuinely care about creating a great employee experience. You notice when something doesn't work, dig into why, and build a better process rather than accepting unnecessary friction.

As Nooks scales, you'll help us make sure our People operations scale with it - without losing the speed, thoughtfulness, and employee experience that matter to us.

What you'll do:

• Own and develop core people operations processes, including onboarding, offboarding, benefits, compliance, and employee lifecycle management.

• Serve as a trusted resource for employees and managers navigating People programs, policies, and systems.

• Help own our HRIS and broader People tech stack, including system configuration, employee data, workflows, integrations, reporting, and troubleshooting.

• Own the operational side of onboarding and ensure every new hire has a smooth experience from signed offer through their first weeks at Nooks.

• Administer benefits programs and support employees with enrollment, eligibility, qualifying life events, and benefits questions.

• Manage employee leaves and accommodations in partnership with employees, managers, vendors, and Legal as needed.

• Own the operational coordination of our immigration program in partnership with external immigration counsel.

• Point of contact for employee questions and matters related to benefits, onboarding, immigration, leaves of absence, and time off.

• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal labor laws - and stay ahead of changes that impact our business and people.

• Other People or general operations responsibilities as required by the People team on an ad-hoc basis.

We're looking for someone who has:

• 3+ years of practical experience in a People or HR-related role - ideally in a high-growth startup environment.

• Detail-oriented and data-driven mindset - ability to identify potential areas of improvement in our operational cadence.

• Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple recurring processes, deadlines, and employee needs simultaneously.

• Experience owning or significantly contributing to employee onboarding and lifecycle operations.

• Working knowledge of employee leaves and core employment compliance requirements.

• Experience administering employee benefits and partnering with benefits brokers and vendors.

• System-mindset - look for ways to simplify, automate, document, and improve processes

• Proactivity in problem-solving - you don't just spot gaps; you fill them.

Nice to haves:

• Knowledge of HR compliance and regulations.

• Direct involvement in scaling startups from early-stage to larger organizational structures.

• Experience with HRIS systems, people analytics tools, and large datasets.
