See Yourself as a People Practices Partner

The People Practices Partner is responsible for advising internal stakeholders on aspects of employment compliance with federal, state and local laws, as well as complex employee relations matters. In addition, this leader is responsible for auditing and improving processes and procedures associated with the entire employee life-cycle, including managing people compliance program efforts and working with the Centers of Excellence (COEs) and business stakeholders to address employment-related practices throughout the organization. The incumbent will actively seek continuous improvement opportunities and provide relevant training to stakeholders to mitigate and prevent risks. In managing these responsibilities, working closely with legal counsel, the People Practices Partner will not provide legal advice, but will partner with others to determine and implement operational solutions that meet the legal requirements and adhere to advice provided by Radian Legal.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Act as an advisor to our People Business Partner team and others across the People team (HR) on complex employee relations matters, including working with legal counsel as necessary.

  • Monitors US federal, state and local employment laws and regulations, ensuring the company remains ahead of legal requirements and implements timely operational solutions

  • Maintain and improve the established testing and monitoring schedule. Conduct internal audits of all practices throughout the employee lifecycle including performance management, onboarding, offboarding, wage & hour, FLSA classifications, leave management, compensation, and benefits administration ensuring compliance with all federal and state law. With COEs, identify areas of opportunity and necessary corrective actions. As needed, investigate and resolve potential issues or gaps, determine root causes, and establish system checks to ensure the solution to resolve the issues are effective.

  • Leads compliance project management through effective partnerships with the People COEs, Legal, ERM, and Internal Audit to address issues holistically and proactively, recommend solutions, manage the implementation, and oversee ongoing monitoring and auditing of practices to ensure the solution is effective.

  • Partner with the People Business Partner and Learning teams to build and facilitate trainings and other interventions to proactively mitigate and prevent employee relations risks.

  • Serve as the People team representative on the Enterprise Compliance Oversight Council and point of contact to the Enterprise Risk Management team, completing quarterly compliance and risk assessments

  • Perform other duties as assigned or apparent.

Additional Responsibilities may include:

  • Workplace Investigations: May lead sensitive, complex workplace investigations from intake to resolution regarding alleged policy violations and employee relations matters.

  • M&A Due Diligence: May support People team due diligence and or integration workstreams as a result of any mergers or acquisitions should they occur, assessing the current statue of the acquired organization, recommending an appropriate approach to achieve compliance, and partnering to execute on identified actions.

  • Change Management: May implement change management strategies and serve as a change agent to ensure smooth transitions, operational excellence and organizational agility, addressing employee concerns and maintaining compliance with policies and regulations.

Qualifications

Basic Education and Prior Work-Related Experience:

Degree Requirement: Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent Experience

Work Experience: 10 years of prior work-related experience in Human Resources, People Operations, and/or Compliance.

  • Prior experience in conducting compliance risk assessments and operational audits of processes and procedures as the first-line-of-defense is required

  • Must have experience with and knowledge of US federal, state and local laws and regulations with demonstrated resourcefulness to effectively monitor and understand the changing regulatory landscape.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities including attention to detail coupled with the ability to think strategically and act decisively using a data-informed approach.

  • Expert level experience in conducting workplace investigations from intake to resolution.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide clear, reasoned employment recommendations on policies, procedures, and operational plans to ensure compliance with US federal, state, and local laws.

  • Excellent interpersonal, collaborative, and consultative skills including the ability to create consensus among stakeholders with disparate positions to progress toward a common goal.

  • Must be able to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions effectively advising others on the path forward and establishing operational plans for implementation

  • Ability to work independently and successfully navigate ambiguity in a fast-paced, highly regulated, multi-state employer environment.

  • Experience with California and Colorado employment legislation and application to ensure compliance is strongly preferred.

  • Strong project management skills

  • Professional certification(s) a plus: PHR/SPHR, SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, Certified Employment Law Specialist (CELS), Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP), or PROSCI Certified Change Practitioner.
