Job description

Are you a data analytics expert with an interest or experience in human resources metrics? We have an opportunity for a People & Culture Advisor to support our People Analytics team. This is an intermediate position that provides an excellent opportunity to build on your analytical and problem-solving skills in an active, large organization.

You'll be part of a central team that provides reporting and analysis on all areas of HR using identified data sets, including understanding the business questions of clients, identifying the right data to answer those questions, and analyzing that data to provide insight.

This opportunity is within our technical work stream, which focuses primarily on the development and maintenance of queries, datasets, and Power BI solutions. However, this position will also work cross-functionally as needed within our advisory work stream, which focuses primarily on consulting with our business clients and presenting insights and analyses. As such, this position requires both an advisory and a technical mindset.

How you'll make a difference: You'll build and empower teams that serve workers and employers across B.C.

Where you'll work

At WorkSafeBC, we offer a hybrid work model that combines working remotely and in our offices based on operational needs.

In this role, you will primarily work from the WorkSafeBC Richmond office, with a minimum of one day per week on-site.

What you'll do

As a people & culture advisor within the technical work stream of the People Analytics team, you will:

  1. Work with clients to identify reporting needs and provide analysis and reporting on an ongoing and ad hoc basis, under the direction of the manager of People Analytics.
  2. Use Microsoft Power BI to connect to our data warehouse and prepare reports and dashboards to answer clients' business questions.
  3. Use PeopleSoft Query to download required data sets and prepare reports using Power BI and/or Excel.
  4. Partner with our IT team to ensure new datasets are integrated into the cloud data warehouse and that views and tables are built for effective analysis.
  5. Maintain security access roles and technical documentation for all Power BI reports.
  6. Collaborate with the advisory team in developing predictive analytics and statistical models as our analytics practice evolves.
  7. Take on advisory duties as needed, including:
    • Developing and managing metrics, measures, and KPIs via reports for all areas of People & Culture.
    • Providing insights and visual storytelling for business questions.
Is this a good fit for you?

We’re looking for someone who can:

  • Work collaboratively with teams and departments.
  • Maintain strong interpersonal skills in a team environment.
  • Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Take initiative.
  • Communicate effectively in written and verbal forms.

You also possess strong capabilities in:

  • Results management: Setting goals, devising plans, monitoring progress, solving problems, and making decisions.
  • Creative thinking: Seeing new possibilities, connecting ideas, reframing issues, and innovating solutions.
  • Customer service focus: Understanding client needs, proactively resolving issues, and maintaining a service-oriented approach.

Your background and experience

  • A degree or diploma in human resources, data science, computer science, business technology management, information systems, business analytics, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel (filtering, pivot tables, formulas like SUM, VLOOKUP, IF, INDEX/MATCH).
  • Experience in HR or data analytics roles, preferably in the public sector or large, unionized environments.
  • Familiarity with HRIS systems (PeopleSoft/Oracle) and HR metrics/reporting principles.
  • Good knowledge of relational databases and best practices.
  • Experience with Power BI or similar tools, and SQL Server Management Studio or similar environments.
  • Assets include experience with Power Apps, Power Automate, SPSS, Python, R, and a CPHR designation or progress towards it.

We will consider an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Important to know

  • Consent to a criminal record check.
  • Legal right to work in Canada.
