Job description



Description

This position functions in the Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology offering pelvic floor physical therapy services in our Pelvic Wellness Center. The Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist will specialize in the evaluation, treatment and management of patients with pelvic floor dysfunctions.


Examples of Duties

I. Clinical 90%
i. Evaluate and treat patients with pelvic floor dysfunction, including but not limited to pelvic pain, urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, and pre/postpartum conditions.
ii. Develop individualized treatment plans incorporating manual therapy, biofeedback, therapeutic exercise, patient education, and other evidence-based interventions.
iii. Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive care for patients.
iv. Maintain detailed patient documentation in accordance with medical and legal guidelines.
v. Educate patients on self-management strategies and prevention techniques.

II. Education 5%
Participate in ongoing education and training initiatives, including teaching and mentoring learners in the center (resident physicians, medical students, NP/PA students).

III. Research & Quality Improvement 5%
i. Engage in clinical research initiatives to advance the field of pelvic health, if desired.
ii. Participate in quality improvement projects and multidisciplinary case conferences.


Qualifications

i. Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree or equivalent from an accredited institution.
ii. Current Illinois Physical Therapy license.
iii. Specialized training in pelvic floor rehabilitation (e.g., Herman & Wallace, APTA Women's Health, or equivalent).
iv. Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in pelvic floor therapy.
v. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-based setting.
vi. Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with advances in pelvic health rehabilitation.
vii. Minimum Basic Life Support certification.
viii. Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations
