Job summary

University of North Dakota is seeking a part-time Math tutor for the Math Active Learning Lab (MALL). The role supports students in Intermediate Algebra, College Algebra, Precalculus, and Mathematics in Society through just-in-time tutoring during open lab hours.

The position offers an on-campus focus, with 10-12 hours per week and a pay rate of $16 per hour. You will proctor exams, help students, and participate in professional development while working within a structured tutoring framework.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate UND student.
  • Successful completion of Calculus I (MATH 165) or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students during open lab time.

  • Maintain content knowledge by working through problems in ALEKS, as assigned.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled professional development sessions.
  • Light cleaning duties, as assigned.

Purpose of Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.


The Philosophy of the Math Active Learning Lab (MALL) is centered around the idea that \"math is not a spectator sport.\" A vital component of that philosophy, the purpose of the MALL tutor is to apply mathematical knowledge and interpersonal skills to provide \"just-in-time\" support to students enrolled in Intermediate Algebra (Math 98), College Algebra (MATH 103), Precalculus (MATH 107), and Mathematics in Society (MATH 110), and to facilitate and encourage students' active participation in the learning process.

Minimum Requirements


  • Undergraduate student at UND

  • Have successfully completed Calculus I (MATH 165), or equivalent

  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications


  • Are pursuing a degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics Education, Physics, Engineering, Data Science, or another mathematically intensive field.

  • Have completed at least one full year of college coursework.

  • Have successfully completed multiple college-level mathematics courses.

  • Have successfully completed Calculus II (MATH 166), or equivalent

  • Have successfully completed courses in one or more of the following subjects: Set Theory & Logic, Discrete Mathematics, Probability & Statistics, or Applied Mathematics.
