Peer Support Worker for Youth and Young Adults impacted by stress and stigma of parental substance use

Duration: 6-10 hours/month, for at least 6 months

As a Peer Support Worker with Starlings Community, you’ll help co-create brave and healing-centered spaces for youth 14+ and young adults navigating the impact of stress and stigma related to parental substance use through a social justice lens. You’ll bring your lived experience, compassion, and boundaries-informed care to support others in feeling less alone, less ashamed, and more hopeful on their journeys.

Responsibilities:
  1. Participate in 1:1 peer support sessions or group storytelling circles
  2. Co-facilitate activities or discussions with trauma-informed guidance
  3. Use non-judgmental and stigma-free language
  4. Model healthy boundaries, emotional safety, and community care
  5. Reflect on your support work in monthly peer learning circles
  6. Help co-create and share resources that reflect youth voices
We’re Looking For People Who:
  • Have lived experience with a parent/caregiver’s substance use, mental health challenges, or related stigma
  • Are strong listeners and believe in peer-to-peer connection over fixing
  • Are open to learning about trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and harm reduction approaches
  • Are emotionally grounded enough to hold space for others without taking it all on
  • Are 18+ years old
