Job summary

Legacy Treatment Services Group is seeking a Part-time Peer Support Specialist in New Jersey to lead engagement with consumers after crisis and provide non-clinical support. The role requires crisis intervention training and at least two years of recovery from SMI or SUD, plus one year of field experience.

Certification from CRSP/CPRS or similar is required. Responsibilities include risk assessment, safety planning, and linkage to services with follow-up care.

Qualifications

• Must be trained in crisis intervention.
• Expected to have at least 2 years of continuous recovery from an SMI or SUD diagnosis and at least one year of field experience with community individuals.
• Certification from at least one credentialing entity (CRSP, CPRS, NCPRSS, Certified Wellness Coach, or Community Mental Health Associate).

Responsibilities

• Take the lead on engagement with consumers and provide non-clinical support after the initial crisis.
• Demonstrate competency in peer-to-peer support before rendering services independently.
• Assist in crisis response, including risk assessment, safety planning, linkage to services, and follow-up care.
• Support de-escalation efforts and avoid law enforcement unless safety requires it.

Job description

Peer Support Specialists will be expected to take the lead on engagement andmay also conduct non-clinical assistance by providing support to consumers after the initial crisis has been resolved. Peer Specialists will be required to demonstrate competency in providing peer-to-peer support prior to rendering services independently.The 988 Program provides 24/7 mobile community outreach services to adults in crisis, including mental health, substance use, and suicidal emergencies. Staff dispatch to crises in teams of two, with a Crisis Response Specialist and a Peer Support Specialist, to provide assessment, risk assessment, safety planning, linkage to services, and follow-up care. The Program aims to provide crisis de-escalation without use of law enforcement unless necessary for consumer or team safety.Hours:Part time; various shifts; This position pays a $1.00 shift differential for the 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m. shift.This position has the following benefits:NJ Earned Sick LeaveTime and one half paid for time worked on 9 Agency-paid holidaysTraining opportunities provided throughout the yearPart-time staff are eligible for a retention bonus of $9.60 for every 8-hour shift worked, every six monthsEducation/Experience:Must be trained in crisis intervention and are expected to have at least 2 years of continuous recovery from an SMI or SUD diagnosis and at least one year of field experience working with community individuals. Peer Support Specialists will be required to participate in DMHAS approved de-escalation, mental health crisis, substance use crisis, and suicide training. Peer Support Specialists must possess a certification from at least one of the following credentialing entities: Addiction Professional Certification Board as a Certified Recovery Support Practitioner (CRSP) or a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS), Mental Health Association in New Jersey as a Certified Recovery Support Practitioner (CRSP); NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals as a National Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (NCPRSS), Certified Wellness Coach, or Community Mental Health Associate certificate.Your driver's license must be in good standing, with no recent suspensions or violations of careless/reckless driving or excessive speeding of more than 20 MPH, and no more than 2 moving violations within the last 3 years.Legacy Treatment Services is an Equal Opportunity Employer.#LTS456
