Job summary

Children’s Nebraska is seeking a Peer Support Specialist to provide recovery-oriented support to individuals receiving services. You will assist with advocacy, life skills, and building natural supports in a safe environment within the unit.

Roles include coordinating with clinical teams, completing required documentation, and adhering to organizational compliance. Lived experience with mental health or substance use is required, with healthcare student experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Lived experience with mental health and/or substance use challenges required.
• Healthcare student or comparable work experience in a health care environment preferred.

• Provides peer support to engage individuals in a recovery partnership and assists in identifying participant’s hopes and dreams and the solutions they are seeking.
• Teaches recovery and life skills using recovery tools.
• Models hope, personal responsibility and self-advocacy to demonstrate how recovery goals can be respectfully met and how a belief in self is maintained.
• Assists in developing natural supports and community living.
• Cultivates connectedness in the person’s life (self, others, the environment, and to meaning and purpose).
• Coordinates with the individual’s clinical team and other supports to arrange services or resources to help the individual achieve their goals.
• Completes clinical documentation as required.
• Understands and adheres to organization’s compliance standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policies.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

A Brief Overview

Provides support and recovery training to individuals receiving services. Assists in maintaining a safe environment, acts as an advocate for the needs and rights of patients, provides empathic, active listening skills, engagement and support, case management and ensures a recovery-oriented environment throughout the unit. In addition, provides indirect unit support needs related to supplies and equipment.

• Minimum of 18 years of age Required
