Pay Range

This range is provided by the New York State Office of Mental Health. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience. Talk with your recruiter to learn more.

Base pay range: $42,641.00/yr - $52,413.00/yr

Duties and Responsibilities

As a Peer Specialist, you will provide direct mental health services in emergency, inpatient, outpatient, community support, and residential settings. Your role includes serving as a role model, educating recipients about self-help techniques and group processes, teaching coping strategies based on personal experience, helping recipients clarify rehabilitation and recovery goals, and developing support systems. Your tasks aim to help recipients regain personal control, develop self-help skills, and foster hope and self-esteem essential for recovery from psychiatric disabilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must demonstrate interpersonal communication skills and the ability to empathize and work effectively with mental health service recipients. Additionally, candidates must have two years of active participation in mental health self-help activities, peer support or advocacy programs, recipient-run organizations, or similar experiences.
