Job summary

Texana Center’s Rosenberg Clinic seeks a Peer Specialist to join the ACT team. You will provide peer support, share recovery experiences, and help clients pursue recovery goals while connecting them to community resources.

The role requires a High School Diploma and a Certified Peer Specialist credential within 6 months, plus a Texas driver’s license and 1 year lived experience. Mileage is paid and work hours are 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, Monday–Friday.

Qualifications

  • 1 year of lived experience with mental illness and recovery.

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer support services as part of the ACT team.
  • Share recovery experiences to mentor clients toward recovery goals.
  • Assist clients in obtaining services and sustaining self-help resources.
  • Teach and model self-help techniques and coping strategies.
  • Document activities in the electronic health record.

Salary Range: $17.06 To $18.95 Hourly

Role Responsibilities

The Peer Specialist is an active member of the ACT team and provides peer support services to individuals with a mental illness and/or co-occurring substance use/abuse diagnosis. The Peer Specialist must be able to articulate their shared recovery experiences and work as a mentor to support clients as they identify and work towards their own recovery goals. Assists in obtaining services that suit the client’s recovery needs. Assist patients in setting up and sustaining self-help and other supportive community resources. Teaches and role models the value of every individual’s recovery experience. Models effective coping techniques and self-help strategies. Assists clients in developing empowerment skills and combatting stigma through self-advocacy. Documentation must meet all applicable standards and established performance benchmarks. Must be able to work within a multi-disciplinary treatment team. Must have excellent engagement, time management, organizational skills, and be able to work within an electronic health record . Routine hours are 8:0 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday with flexibility for schedule changes to allow for appointments outside of routine hours. Must have reliable vehicle for transportation. Mileage paid. The Peer Specialist reports directly to the ACT Team Lead and is responsible and accountable for the adherence to and promotion of the compliance policy.

  • 90% $17.06/ hour to start;
  • 95% $18.00 /hour at 6 mos. with satisfactory performance
  • 100% $18.95/ hour at 1 yearwith satisfactory performance
Required Education and/or Certifications, Experience, Skills
  • High School Diploma
  • Certified Peer Specialist at hire or within 6 months of hire
  • Texas driver’s license in good standing as defined by Texana Center’s procedure
  • 1 year of lived experience with mental illness and treatment and recovery in a community center setting
Preferred Education and/or Certifications, Experience, Skills
  • 1 year of work experience providing direct services within a Behavioral Health or Social Service setting
  • Spanish speaking
Job Related Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to perform SAMA and CPR.
  • Must be able to perform moderate lifting and carrying (15-44#), pushing, stooping, repeated bending, reaching above shoulder, simple grasping, hearing, walking, sitting and twisting.
  • Must have ability to see, write, operate office equipment, operate a motor vehicle and have depth perception.
  • Qualified individual must be able to perform these functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
