POSITION SUMMARY:

The Peer Recovery Specialist is responsible for providing coverage at the Living Proof Recovery Center and/or Camden County Metro Police Department, both located in Camden, New Jersey. The role includes engaging and providing non-clinical assistance and recovery supports for individuals experiencing active substance use and/or reversed from an opioid overdose. The Peer Recovery Specialist will maintain relationships with survivors by contact to reinforce, guide, and ensure survivors that recovery is possible. The Peer Recovery Specialist will assist the survivor to gain skills and access necessary resources needed to initiate and maintain their recovery.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Compliant with funding source, contract and or program's Annex A.
  • Complete required documentation within established timeframes per Federal, State, County, and agency regulations, policy and procedure.
  • Educates participants on multiple pathways of recovery, on how to appropriately navigate treatment, social service, and recovery support systems.
  • Be a role model by sharing knowledge, hope, and skills.
  • Maintain relationships to assist individuals in the treatment engagement and retention process.
  • Reinforces, guides, and ensures that recovery is possible, based on the strengths, coping abilities, and resources of each individual.
  • Assists with gaining skills and resources needed to initiate and maintain recovery.
  • Assists in establishing and sustaining a social and physical environment supportive of recovery.
  • Link and refer individuals from the hospital at bedside to treatment using a client-centered approach.
  • Provide recovery support services based on the individual's preference and needs.
  • Peer Recovery Specialists are scheduled to staff the Living Proof Recovery Center located on Benson Street in Camden, New Jersey and/or the Camden County Metro Police Department.
  • Responsible for responding to law enforcement calls within 15-30 minutes to ensure prompt services are provided.
  • Peer Recovery Specialist explains the program and their role, engaging the survivor in a non-clinical supportive relationship.
  • Peer Recovery Specialist obtains all signed consents and releases before making any calls or referrals on behalf of the participant.
  • Peer Recovery Specialist and Navigator discuss cases within 48 hours on LPRC/CCPD interaction and Navigator documents case review in AWARDS.
  • Working as a team with Navigator to link individuals to resources that address specialized social service needs to build their recovery capital.
  • Provides supportive outreach and engagement in LPRC/CCPD setting for the purpose of furthering recovery, including but not limited to phone calls, text messages, and letters.
  • Develops a Recovery Plan which should include culturally competent and relevant services that identify goals with measurable objectives, assess strengths, identify barriers that can inhibit goal attainment, and monitor progress made towards those goals.
  • Documenting an accurate shift log after each shift.
  • Documenting each new case into the Electronic Health Record System (AWARDS) and following up with each participant in a 3-2-1 format as shown in the program manual.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED, Associate Degree preferred.
  • At least 2 continuous years of recovery or 2 years of practicing the principles of recovery as a family member affected by substance use.
  • Must have a valid driver's license per vendor agency requirements.
