Job summary

USC Healthy Minds in Clarksburg, West Virginia, seeks a recovery coach to serve as a personal guide and liaison for individuals with substance use disorders within WVU Health System settings. You will help patients identify treatment needs, develop and monitor individualized plans, and support them to remain in treatment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Peer Recovery Certification issued by state board where services are provided.
• State-specific certifications (e.g., CPRS/PRSS-SUD) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work actively with patients with Substance Use Disorders identified in WVU Health System treatment settings; help link patients to outpatient treatment.
• Provide mentoring through life experience to individuals experiencing substance use problems.
• Meet face to face with individuals and identified support persons in person and/or by phone, as requested.
• Develop individualized plans with patients and monitor those wellness plans during meetings.
• Provide information to treatment team to inform treatment decision making.
• Link patients to resources, including continuing education, safe housing, recovery supports, and health services.
• Serve as a liaison to the patient’s supports including family, sponsors, and other providers.
• Maintain working relationships with WVU Health System staff and other agencies to raise recovery awareness.
• Assist patients in crisis situations involving social, emotional, health, and other problems.

Job description

This position serves as a personal guide, and liaison for individuals with substance use disorders identified in WVU Health System affiliated treatment settings. The recovery coach supports patients by assisting them with identifying treatment needs, developing, maintaining, and monitoring individualized treatment plans, and supporting patients to remain in treatment. The recovery coach’s duties include providing outreach, support, recovery check-ups on site in treatment settings, in the community and functioning as part of a treatment team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS** : **

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. High School Diploma or equivalent

2. Peer Recovery Certification issued by state board where services are provided:

WV: Substance Use Disorder Peer Recovery Certification (PRSS-SUD) through the West Virginia Certification Board for Addiction and Prevention Professionals (WVCBAPP)

MD: Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) through the Maryland Addiction & Behavioral-Health Professionals Certification Board

1. State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), asrequiredfor regulated areas.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS** : **

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Valid Driver’s License

2. Certificate of completion of the CCAR Recovery Coaching in the Emergency Department.

3. Active participation in the recovery for two or more years and current active attendance at community recovery meetings.

6. Link patients to available resources, including, but not limited to: continuing education/professional development, safe housing, recovery supports, self- help groups, substance abuse and mental health services, sobriety meetings, and medical/health facilities.

7. Serve as a liaison to the patient’s formal and informal supports, including but not limited to: their referral source, family members, client sponsors, treatment providers, and other supporters.

8. Maintain working relationships with WVU Health System treatment staff and other agencies or institutions in order provide awareness of recovery as a reality and the availability of recovery coaching.

9. Assist patients in crisis situations involving social, emotional, health, and other problems.

3. May be exposed to virus, disease, and infection from patients and specimens in working environment. May be exposed to traumatic situations including psychiatric crisis, physical injuries and death.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of treatment resources including a working knowledge of the 12-Step Fellowships.

2. Ability to comply with WVU Health System, WVU Research Corporation, UHA, and Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry safety procedures

3. Completion of HIPAA training and compliance (to be completed upon hire, with refresher courses as determined by administration).

4. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients and families, pharmaceutical company personnel, regulatory and monitoring agency personnel, internal staff members. Communicates with physicians, patients, students, and employees of WVU Health System, and UHA.

5. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

6. Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution, solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

7. Ability to develop specific goals and plans, to prioritize, organize and accomplish tasks independently and through others.

8. Ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintain them over time.

9. Skilled at working as a team member.

10. Skilled at written and oral communication.

11. Knowledge of basic computer applications: Word and Excel.
