Qualifications

  • Must be an active Certified Peer Recovery Specialist in NJ or obtain licensure within 6 months.
  • One year of related experience is required.
  • Must have a good driving record and a NJ driver's license.

We provide innovative and compassionate services to individuals struggling with substance use and co-occurring disorders. We are looking for dedicated, caring, and compassionate people to work in our Residential/Outpatient Treatment Facilities and Community Programs.

Peer Recovery Specialist (Women's Program)

Location: Paterson, NJ

Job Summary:

Certified Peer Recovery Specialists provide non-clinical assistance to help peers in their recovery from alcohol and drug-related problems through Advocacy, Mentoring, Education, and Recovery and Wellness Support, following established ethical principles and training. They may be in their own recovery, have been affected family members or friends, or use their own experiences to support others. Peers are anyone requesting help for a drug and alcohol problem. The PRS functions as an integral part of the recovery process during treatment and after discharge, aligned with the 10 Guiding Principles of recovery.

Position Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build a supportive community among clients and staff that promotes growth and recovery. Assist in establishing supportive relationships with parents and guardians of children receiving services from the Department of Children and Families (DCF).
  • Assist in creating and implementing social activities to foster a positive environment for clients and children.
  • Assist clients in accessing Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) when applicable.
  • Participate in events and training for clients, families, and caregivers. Provide direct advocacy by accompanying clients to meetings, school IEP meetings, hearings, and team meetings upon request.
  • Encourage and promote client leadership opportunities within the community.
  • Help clients develop self-advocacy skills and build a recovery support system.
  • Connect with community organizations and resources to support parents and families, especially during transitions from recovery to less intensive services or community reintegration.
  • Advocate, mentor, educate, and support recovery and wellness while maintaining ethical responsibilities.
  • Encourage attendance and participation in AA/NA/GA meetings.
  • Assist clients and families in understanding Relapse Prevention processes when applicable.
  • Document psycho-educational sessions and other relevant documentation when required.
  • Transport clients to and from activities when applicable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent. One (1) year of related experience is required. Must be an active Certified Peer Recovery Specialist in NJ or within 6 months of licensure. Must have a car, a NJ driver's license with a good driving record, and be detail-oriented, flexible, capable of working independently. Computer literacy and typing skills are required.
