Job summary

Community Medical Services is seeking a Peer Recovery Coach in Michigan to provide peer-based recovery support for individuals with substance use disorders. You will use lived experience to build rapport, empower clients, and guide them in developing recovery plans within Medicaid guidelines.

The role emphasizes ethical boundaries, confidentiality, and collaboration with the Clinic Manager and team. Benefits include healthcare, retirement, and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two consecutive years in recovery after age 18; three years preferred.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Personal experience receiving treatment and navigating the recovery system.
• Must meet MDHHS training and certification eligibility requirements.
• Completion of CCAR & Ethics training or MDHHS Peer Recovery Coach Certification required.
• Criminal background check, Sex Offender Registry check, and drug screening within 48 hours of offer.
• Valid driver’s license with reliable insured transportation.

Responsibilities

• Provide non-clinical, peer-to-peer mentoring and recovery support.
• Establish a professional relationship grounded in lived recovery experience.
• Share recovery stories to inspire hope and connection.
• Help individuals develop, implement, and monitor recovery plans.
• Assist with identifying and accessing recovery resources (agencies, groups, providers).
• Reduce barriers and connect to services for sustaining recovery.
• Attend meetings, reviews, and community events relevant to coaching.
• Document services accurately and timely per agency and Medicaid standards.
• Maintain confidentiality per HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
