Job summary

ACMH provides home-based peer support and recovery services in New York and seeks a Peer Program & Support Specialist to lead peer staff, deliver direct services, and promote recovery-oriented practices. The role covers training, group facilitation, and skills coaching in daily living within clients' homes.

The role involves coordinating monthly peer groups, teaching budgeting, meal planning, hygiene, and safety, and documenting progress.

Qualifications

• Requires NYCPS certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, mentorship, and advocacy to peer staff.
• Maintain ongoing support for peer staff including monthly groups (Zoom/in-person).
• Teach skills for personal hygiene, budgeting, shopping, meals, and housekeeping.
• Monitor apartment maintenance and alert supervisor of issues.
• Teach self-preservation and safety in living units.
• Administer the client cooking safety test and supervise self-administration of medication.
• Document services and client progress in a timely manner.
• Assist in building self-advocacy and recovery goals with clients.
• Attend training and other duties as assigned.

Description

Position: Peer Program & Support Specialist

Reports to: Director of Recovery and Empowerment Support

Function: Provides direct service to clients in their homes, assisting with training in skills of daily living. Provides peer support opportunities for ACMH employees.

Tasks:

• Provides leadership, mentorship, and advocacy to peer staff by supporting their professional development, emotional well-being, and adherence to recovery-oriented peer support principles while promoting effective integration of peer roles within the organization.
• Responsible for ongoing support for ACMH peer staff members including monthly peer groups (via Zoom and in-person).
• Teaches skills for maintaining personal hygiene, laundry and apartment cleaning.
• Monitors overall maintenance of apartments and alerts program director of maintenance problems.
• Teaches skills for budgeting, shopping, meal planning, preparation and clean-up.
• Teaches skills for self-preservation, monitors living units for safety and cleanliness.
• Administers the client cooking safety test.
• Monitors, documents and teaches self-administration of medication, according to program policy and procedures.
• Report incidents or behavioral changes in residents to supervisor.
• Teaches travel skills and escorts clients, where needed.
• Facilitates/co-facilitates groups, as requested.
• Documents services rendered and client progress in a timely manner.
• Assists in building self-advocacy skills to effectively communicate with supports and treatment team
• Supports recovery skill building goals to decrease frequency of contact with emergency services
• Attends training and other duties as assigned by supervisory staff

Requirements

Lived experience receiving mental health services such as past or current participant of behavioral health, substance or homeless services; commitment to assist others in attaining their mental health recovery goals in part through sharing own personal lived experiences. Completion of New York Certified Peer Program (NYCPS) certification required. High School diploma or G.E.D. preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Basic computer and data entry skills.

Salary: $52,683 plus generous benefits
