Job description

Peer Program Specialist – Ryer Avenue

ACMH Inc. is seeking a Peer Program Specialist to provide direct services to clients in their homes in the Bronx (Mount Hope). The role reports to the Program Director and focuses on teaching daily living skills, monitoring apartment maintenance and safety, and supporting recovery and self‑advocacy goals.

Responsibilities
  • Teach skills for personal hygiene, laundry and apartment cleaning.
  • Monitor overall maintenance of apartments and alert the program director of maintenance problems.
  • Teach budgeting, shopping, meal planning, preparation, and clean‑up.
  • Provide self‑preservation training and monitor safety and cleanliness of living units.
  • Administer the client cooking safety test.
  • Monitor, document, and teach self‑administration of medication.
  • Report incidents or behavioral changes in residents to a supervisor.
  • Teach travel skills and escort clients as needed.
  • Facilitate or co‑facilitate groups as requested.
  • Document services rendered and client progress promptly.
  • Assist in building self‑advocacy skills to communicate with client’s supports and treatment team.
  • Support recovery skill‑building goals to reduce emergency service use.
  • Attend training and other duties assigned by supervisory staff.
Qualifications

Lived experience as a consumer of mental health, substance use, and/or homeless services is required. Preferred qualifications include completion or progress toward New York Certified Peer Program (NYCPS) certification, high school diploma or G.E.D., strong written and verbal communication skills in English, and basic computer and data entry skills.

Schedule

Thursdays, Fridays, & Sundays (8:00 am–4:00 pm).

Salary

$22.00 – $22.07 per hour (Certified and non‑certified rates).
