Description

Job Summary: The Peer Mental Health Specialist is responsible for the development of a Peer mental health network for youth/young adults. This position will outreach and coordinate with existing mental health and recovery services and develop other necessary strength-based supports needed to promote successful recovery. This Peer Specialist will provide mental health support to youth and young adults in northern panhandle counties of West Virginia.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research other successful youth peer mental health networks.
  • Outreach to mental health networks to learn about supports necessary to promote successful recovery.
  • Outreach to local peer recovery providers to coordinate efforts.
  • Become a certified Recovery Coach.
  • Participate in local Recovery Coach Training and promote certification process.
  • Public speaking engagements to promote awareness and accessibility of mental health services.
  • Provide mental health support using evidence-based Programs.
  • Assist with tracking and reporting performance measures.
  • Complete necessary documentation and grant reporting.
  • Assist with transportation to improve accessibility of mental health services.
  • Assist with applications for private funding to support recovery efforts.
  • Attend necessary treatment team and community meetings.
  • Assist consumers in accessing benefits.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge and experience of adults with mental health diagnosis.
  • Excellent time management and organizing skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written.
  • Experience working with the recovery community.
  • Experience in program development.
  • Ability to work under pressure and multitask.
  • Proficient and accurate documentation.
  • Ability to use Adobe and Microsoft software.

Education and Experience:

  • Requires High school Diploma/G.E.D or equivalent;
  • Prefers Associate Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or related human services field.
  • Must have lived experience. Must be able to obtain Peer Recovery Coach Certification.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance as required by law.
