What You’ll Do:
Provide empathetic, peer-to-peer support and evidence-based information to help WIC mothers achieve their breastfeeding goals.
- Offer encouragement and basic breastfeeding education to pregnant and postpartum mothers, primarily via phone calls.
- Share practical tips on benefits, getting started, and overcoming common challenges, drawing from your own experience.
- Maintain accurate records of client contacts and provide timely referrals to a Lactation Coordinator when needed.
- Help facilitate prenatal and breastfeeding support groups (as needed).
What You Bring:
- Lived Experience: Personal experience breastfeeding at least one baby. Past or current WIC participation is highly valued.
- Language Skills: Fluency in both English and Portuguese is required.
- Heart for Service: A non-judgmental, compassionate, and supportive nature with a deep respect for cultural diversity.
- Availability: Flexibility to make calls outside standard business hours and attend one monthly office meeting.
- Commitment: A willingness to complete our paid training program to become a certified Peer Counselor.
