Job summary

Finger Lakes Area Counseling and Recovery Agency (FLACRA) in Farmington, NY is seeking a compassionate Peer Advocate to join our behavioral health team. You will provide peer support services to individuals in recovery, using your lived experience to guide and empower clients on their recovery journeys.

Under supervision, you will participate in treatment planning, help develop recovery plans, and engage clients early in treatment while coordinating with community providers.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Valid NYS Driver’s License with ability to use a personal vehicle for client visits.
• Lived experience in recovery or caring for someone with mental health/substance use challenges.
• Willingness to participate in peer certification training with goal of CRPA-P within 4 months.

Responsibilities

• Actively participate in client treatment teams, including team meetings and treatment planning.
• Assist clients in developing recovery plans, including crisis plans.
• Provide psycho-education focused on illness management and peer support through one-on-one sessions.
• Share your own recovery experiences to serve as a role model, teaching coping techniques and self-help strategies.
• Offer case management support by coordinating services and collaborating with external providers.
• Maintain accurate records on all assigned clients for progress tracking.
• Advocate on behalf of clients within the treatment team.
• Facilitate outreach to engage clients in treatment early.
• Lead outreach and mentor peers in recovery and treatment engagement.
• Support and mentor Tier 1 peers for leadership development.
• Participate in required trainings to maintain certifications and improve skills.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Job Details: Level: Entry, Job Location: Farmington, NY 14425, Position Type: Full Time, Education Level: High School, Salary Range: $16.50 - $17.00 Hourly, Job Category: Other, Job Summary: FLACRA is seeking a compassionate and motivated Peer Advocate to join our team. As a Peer Advocate, you will provide peer support services to individuals experiencing serious mental illness and/or substance use challenges. Under the supervision of the Director of Housing and Vocational Rehabilitation Services, you will serve as a role model, using your lived experience in recovery to offer guidance, advocacy, and support to help clients navigate their own recovery journeys.

In this role, you will be an integral part of the client’s treatment team, helping to facilitate recovery plans and promote independence within the community. You’ll also play a key role in engaging clients in early stages of treatment and assisting with transitions as they progress through their recovery.

Key Responsibilities:

• Actively participate in client treatment teams, including team meetings and treatment planning.

• Lead outreach efforts and provide support to peers in early stages of recovery and treatment engagement.
• Support and mentor other peers within the agency, helping Tier 1 peers grow into leadership roles.
• Participate in required trainings to maintain certifications and improve skills.
• Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
