Atrium Health Wake Forest School of Medicine-Charlotte Department of Pediatrics at Levine Children’s is seeking a full-time clinical investigator to serve as Medical Director for Vaccine Clinical Research.
Background: The STRIVE (Strategic, Research, Innovation, Vaccines, and Engagement) Research program at AH LCH was established in Fall 2020. It was founded to enable COVID-19 vaccine clinical trials and has since expanded to include vaccines against multiple pathogens across the lifespan. The program has facilities in two locations, a dedicated team including research APPs, nurses, coordinators, and lab support, and comprehensive labs, pharmacy, and clinical spaces.
Position details: The Medical Director will work closely with the Vice Chair for Research at Wake Forest University School of Medicine-Charlotte, Department of Pediatrics, to develop and lead the vaccine research program, serve as PI, and foster research growth and collaboration. The role includes mentoring investigators, expanding research portfolios, and promoting scholarly activity. The Medical Director will have an academic appointment and will work to enhance the program's visibility and funding, including industry and federal trials.
This role involves expanding vaccine research across the Atrium Health enterprise, fostering cross-department collaborations, and developing research programs involving learners. The Medical Director will support research sustainability, professional development, and future growth directions.

About the setting: Atrium Health, based in Charlotte, NC, formed a partnership with Wake Forest University in 2022. It is a large health system with 81+ hospitals, with a new Charlotte Medical School Campus opening in Fall 2025. Charlotte is a major city in the Southeast, known as "the International Gateway to the South" due to its central location and accessibility.
