Job summary

MUSC Health is seeking a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to operate advanced ultrasound equipment and capture high-quality images for diagnosis and treatment. You will prepare patients, assist procedures, perform comprehensive examinations, and document findings for physician review.

The role involves obstetric imaging, high-risk obstetric assessment as needed, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to ensure patient safety and excellent care. BLS and ARRT/ARDMS certification required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
• At least 1 year of Ultrasound/Sonography experience preferred.
• ARRT (S) or ARDMS certification required.
• Current BLS for Healthcare Providers required.

Responsibilities

• Operates ultrasound equipment to obtain diagnostic images with high quality.
• Performs comprehensive sonographic exams and documents findings.
• Reviews orders and instructs patients for proper preparation.

Responsibilities

Job Description

• Operates ultrasound equipment to obtain high-quality diagnostic images of organs, tissues, and anatomical structures.
• Performs comprehensive sonographic examinations to identify, evaluate, and document anatomical, physiological, and pathological findings.
• Reviews physician orders and patient instructions to ensure appropriate preparation for ultrasound examinations.
• Performs ultrasound examinations in accordance with established protocols and physician requirements.
• Evaluates images for quality, completeness, and diagnostic value prior to submitting for physician interpretation.
• Documents and records examination findings and test results accurately in the appropriate systems.
• Performs obstetric ultrasound examinations, including fetal imaging for diagnosis and detection of congenital anomalies.
• Performs specialized ultrasound imaging for patients with high-risk obstetric indications.
• Communicates relevant patient condition and examination findings to the OB/GYN nursing team before and after procedures, as appropriate.
• Monitors patient condition and promotes patient safety, comfort, and privacy throughout examinations.
• Inspects, cleans, and maintains ultrasound equipment to ensure proper operation and image quality.
• Identifies equipment or supply needs and orders supplies as necessary to support department operations.
• Follows established safety, infection prevention, and departmental policies and procedures.

Additional Job Description

Education

Graduation from an accredited school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

Experience

At least 1 year of Ultrasound/Sonography experience preferred.

Required Registration/Certification

• Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (S) or Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
