Job summary

TVCCA - Thames Valley Council for Community Action, Inc. seeks a school health nurse to support the health and development of young children in an early education setting.

The role involves monitoring health needs, coordinating care, maintaining records, and responding to illnesses and emergencies. The nurse will collaborate with families, educators, and healthcare providers, provide health guidance to staff, and ensure compliance with health regulations.

Qualifications

• Requires RN licensure in CT and health-related nursing credentials.
• Must have First Aid/CPR/AED certifications and annual updates.
• Experience with pediatric populations common in school or community settings.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate health screenings and monitor follow-up and health education.
• Maintain health records, immunizations, and care plans for children with special health concerns.
• Provide staff health education, guidance, and training on health and safety practices.
• Respond to illnesses and medical emergencies and maintain confidentiality.

Education

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN preferred)

Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment

Strong computer and communication skills

Obtain and keep current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification

Obtain and keep current instructor authorization to teach First Aid, CPR & AED

Obtain a physical exam (Statement of Good Health) at hire and updated every three years

Minimum 2-3 years of nursing experience, pediatrics/school health/community health

Experience with young children or in early childhood/educational settings
