Job summary

The NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland seeks an experienced Pediatric Registered Nurse for a 13-week contract assignment with nights. This full-time role offers the opportunity for long-term or permanent placement based on performance and staffing needs.

Responsibilities include assessing and delivering pediatric nursing care, monitoring patient conditions, administering medications, and documenting accurately.

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the United States (at least one state).
• Associate/bachelor’s degree in nursing or nursing diploma from an accredited program.
• Successful NCLEX-RN completion.
• Two to three years pediatric acute-care hospital experience.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• ACLS certification if required by client.
• Proven competency in pediatric nursing.
• Effective English communication skills.
• Computer literacy with electronic clinical documentation.
• U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate age-appropriate nursing care for pediatric patients.
• Monitor patient condition and respond to clinical changes or emergencies.
• Administer medications, fluids, blood products, and treatments within scope.
• Calculate and verify weight-based medication dosages.
• Maintain pediatric safety, infection-control, and emergency precautions.
• Provide developmentally appropriate support to patients.
• Educate and support parents, guardians, and family members.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other team members.
• Follow NIH protocols, patient-safety requirements, and standards.
• Participate in orientation, training, and competency activities.
• Float to other areas as needed within competency.
