Overview

The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh is seeking Flex Full-Time Registered Nurses for our Pediatric Specialty Hospital. This position requires 56 hours per pay period, with two 12-hour shifts every weekend. Weekends are defined for this position as Friday 7:00am to Monday 7:00am, and the role may include any holiday shifts that fall on weekends. The position may flex up to 36 hours per week, 8 weeks per year: 6 weeks in the summer (Memorial Day to Labor Day) and 2 weeks at any other time.

Our Pediatric Specialty Hospital offers a 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio. RNs provide competent, developmentally appropriate, professional, and quality nursing care by applying clinical nursing knowledge and skills, utilizing the nursing process, and ensuring the safety and comfort of patients and families according to legal, institutional, and professional standards.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care in a pediatric/neonatal setting in accordance with nursing standards and hospital policies.
  • Apply the nursing process to plan, implement, and evaluate care; monitor patient status and respond to changes in condition.
  • Collaborate with the health care team to coordinate patient care and communicate with patients and families in sensitive situations.
  • Adhere to safety and infection control protocols and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Participate in unit-based quality improvement and professional development activities.

Requirements
  • Educational preparation equivalent to graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Minimum of two years of experience with knowledge of scientific principles of nursing, professional nursing standards, and skills in neonatal and/or pediatric nursing techniques; familiarity with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Current licensure to practice nursing in the state of Pennsylvania.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Analytical ability to assess and evaluate patient conditions and apply the nursing process in planning and providing comprehensive care.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with patients, families, and the health care team.
  • Physical ability for standing, walking, and lifting 10 to 50 lbs, with stamina for frequent patient handling and equipment transport.
  • Emotional and mental resilience to perform effectively under daily stress and in emergencies.
