Job summary

Arkansas Children’s Hospital is seeking a part-time Pharmacist to compound and dispense prescribed medications, consult with medical staff on interactions and patient history, and respond to patient dosage questions. This role requires AR state pharmacy licensure and may involve BCPS certification.

The position encompasses ensuring compliance with hospital procedures and pharmacy data requirements while supporting a high standard of patient safety and care within the pediatric unit.

Qualifications

• Doctorate of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Pharmacy (if obtained prior to 2000).
• Active license with the AR State Board of Pharmacy.
• Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) recommended.

Responsibilities

• Verifies appropriateness of all doses based on child’s diagnosis, weight, age and body surface area.
• Identifies and intervenes when drug therapy problems arise (allergies, interactions, duplications).
• Verifies drug appropriateness, initiates therapy, and suggests cost-effective alternatives.
• Evaluates need for non-formulary drugs and substitutions as needed.
• Ensures medications are dispensed with correct dose, route, salt, regimen, and substitutions.
• Ensures high standards in preparation, labeling, and appropriate auxiliary labels.
• Processes orders efficiently and prioritizes tasks.
• Provides professional patient care, monitors outcomes, and advises other providers.
• Educates patients, technicians, pharmacists, and students; participates in discharge planning.
• Handles drug information requests accurately and completes documentation.
• Notifies manager of stock issues and coordinates orders with wholesalers.
• Coordinates loan/borrow processes, recalls, and annual inventory.
• Notifies of unavailable items promptly and coordinates substitutions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
