Job summary

Shriner's Children's is seeking a capable nursing leader to serve as a clinical and administrative lead of a designated unit. You will supervise licensed and unlicensed nursing staff, ensure safe care, and assume 24-hour responsibility for the unit's operation across shifts.

Collaboration with medical, administrative and interdisciplinary leadership is essential to optimize patient outcomes and fiscal performance.

Qualifications

• Performs professional nursing services as defined by the American Nurses Association and the California Nurse Practice Act.
• Acts as clinical leader and resource nurse with 24-hour unit responsibility.
• Supervises licensed and unlicensed nursing staff.

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of functions related to the management of department personnel in compliance with organizational and human resources policies and procedures.
• Interviews, hires, and recommends termination of employees in accordance with Human Resources policies and procedures and in consultation with the Director.
• Communicates job duties to staff in a clear, understandable manner; plans, directs, and supervises work of assigned staff utilizing positive communications and effective problem solving skills.
• Provides performance input on staff in consultation with Director; includes planning, reviews, and counseling based on defined criteria.
• Consults with Director regarding staff performance and hospital-wide issues affecting department morale.
• Delegates responsibility to staff according to job descriptions and capabilities.
• Coordinates new employee orientation to department within established timeframes.
• Acts as a resource to staff; coordinates priority educational offerings and skills training for staff.
• Performs administrative functions to coordinate, supervise, and monitor department operations.
• Communicates with Director; seeks input and makes recommendations for policy or practice changes.
• Monitors department expenditures and reports variances; proposes control measures.
• Develops annual operating and capital budget requests within timelines.
• Works with Management Team to achieve hospital goals and develop interdepartmental communications.
• Develops and implements a department Performance Improvement Program in compliance with Joint Commission standards.
• Maintains inventory of supplies and oversees requisitions; consults with Director as needed.
• Conducts regular staff meetings to discuss policies, improve communications, and plan activities.
• Coordinates department volunteer programs in support of Volunteer Services and policy.
