Job summary

UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, NC seeks a New Graduate Registered Nurse for the Pediatric Surgical/Trauma Unit. The role supports a 36-hour week with day/night and weekend rotation, including a yearlong New Graduate Residency program if applicable.

NC RN licensure prior to start is required, with a strong emphasis on education and mentorship. Unit specialties include general surgery, ENT, burns, neurosurgery, orthopedics, trauma, urology, and transplants across birth to adolescence.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Board of Nursing approved nursing education program.
• If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment, and obtain a Bachelor's degree with a major in Nursing or a Master's degree with a major in Nursing within seven years of employment date.
• Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina by the day of clinical care.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification

Responsibilities

• Education - Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self.
• Evaluation of Care - Identifies expected patient outcomes. Participates in discussion with interdisciplinary team about patient care.
• Implementation - Demonstrates competence in care of patients with complex problems and coordinates care.
• Leadership - Develops goals for professional growth and collaborates to achieve unit goals.
• Patient Assessment - Prioritizes patient needs and discharge planning considerations.
• Planning - Plans care with patient/family and uses multidisciplinary resources.
• Research - Reads journals and brings ideas to staff for assessment of applicability.
