The Section of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Children's HospitalColorado and the University of Colorado School of Medicine (CU SOM)is seeking a BC/BE pediatric neurosurgeon for a faculty position tobe located at Children's Hospital Colorado – Anschutz MedicalCampus, in Aurora Colorado, just east of Denver. The candidatemust be thoroughly trained and experienced in pediatricneurosurgery. Preferred qualifications include fellowship trainingand experience in pediatric neurosurgery, specifically interest incraniofacial disorders, fetal neurosurgery, and spasticity.
The successful candidate's primary role will be on the AnschutzMedical Campus, although there may be some opportunity to work atNetwork of Care sites in the Denver Metro area or occasionally atChildren's Hospital Colorado - Colorado Springs. The candidate willbe fully incorporated into the division of pediatric neurosurgeryat Children's Hospital Colorado.
Children's Hospital Colorado – Anschutz Medical Campus is anacademic 450 bed Pediatric Level 1 trauma center, associated withthe University of Colorado Department of Neurosurgery and itsresidency program. Primary responsibilities at the University ofColorado Anschutz will include both inpatient and outpatientclinical evaluation and management of patients with pediatricneurosurgical disease, and performance of neurosurgery procedures.There will be on-call responsibility at the Anschutz Campus in aroughly 1:5 cadence.
In addition to clinical responsibilities, education and teaching ofmedical students, pediatric neurosurgery fellows, and others willbe an important responsibility. The successful candidate will haveexcellent teaching and education skills, and excellentcommunication and team skills. The candidate will have completedfellowship in good standing in Pediatric Neurosurgery at anABPNS-approved fellowship program (or equivalent), MD (orequivalent) degree and be American Board of Neurological SurgeryCertified/Eligible. The candidate will join 4 other MD providers, 8Advanced Practice Providers and 2 RNs at the Anschutz MedicalCampus, as well as 2 other MD providers, 2 Advanced PracticeProviders and 1 RN at our Colorado Springs location.
The successful candidate will join an expanding group ofcollaborative, dedicated pediatric neurosurgeons at one of the top 10 Children's Hospitals inthe United States. Experience in an academic setting, primarily in PediatricNeurosurgery
Area of unique neurosurgery research focus/expertise
Advanced to expert knowledge of pediatric neurological disorders(e.g. congenital malformations, spasticity, hydrocephalus,epilepsy, brain tumors, and traumatic CNS injuries).
Ability to evaluate, diagnose, and develop treatment plans forpediatric patients with acute and chronic neurologicalconditions.
Strong understanding of neuroimaging modalities including MRI,CT, angiography, and intraoperative navigation systems.
Advanced – expert skill in performing complex neurosurgicalprocedures utilizing microsurgical, endoscopic, and minimallyinvasive techniques.
Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinaryproviders/teams.
Excellent communication skills to explain complex diagnoses,treatment options, and surgical risks to patients' families andcaregivers.
Ability to interpret and incorporate patient safety standards,quality improvement initiatives, and evidence-based clinicalpractices.
Ability to participate in clinical research, medical educationcourses/training including residents & fellows, and otheracademic requirements.
Experience using electronic health records (EHRs) and maintainingaccurate and time sensitive clinical documentation.
