Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and treat pediatric neurological conditions including epilepsy, neuromuscular disorders, headaches, developmental delays, and neurogenetic disorders.
  • Perform neurological exams using EEG, MRI, and genetic testing as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive care plans.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the EHR and support billing and coding accuracy.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences to discuss complex cases.

About the Position: We are seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Pediatric Neurologist to join our robust and expanding practice. The successful candidate will work in a 150-bed hospital, currently undergoing a multi-billion dollar renovation and expansion to our Women's and Children's Hospital. This facility has become one of the largest birthing hospitals in the state of Louisiana and is home to the only Level III Surgical NICU in the area.

About the Team: You will join an exceptional team of physicians, including Dr. Kenneth Habetz, and a comprehensive subspecialist group that includes:

  • Pediatric General Surgery
  • Pediatric Neurosurgery
  • Pediatric Orthopedics
  • Pediatric Endocrinology
  • Pediatric Genetics
  • OB-GYN, Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM)
  • Breast Surgery

Responsibilities

Clinical Care:

  • Diagnose and treat pediatric neurological conditions, including epilepsy, neuromuscular disorders, headaches, developmental delays, and neurogenetic disorders.
  • Conduct thorough neurological exams, utilizing various diagnostic techniques such as EEG, MRI, and genetic testing as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including pediatricians, neurologists, and rehabilitation specialists, to develop comprehensive care plans.

Patient and Family Communication:

  • Provide clear, empathetic communication with patients and families to discuss diagnoses, treatment options, and ongoing care.
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers on disease management and care at home.

Clinical Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough documentation of patient evaluations, diagnoses, treatments, and follow-up care in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Collaborate with billing and coding teams to ensure documentation meets compliance standards.

Collaborative Care and Case Management:

  • Work closely with other healthcare providers, including primary care physicians, physical therapists, and psychologists, to ensure a holistic approach to patient care.
  • Participate in regular multidisciplinary case conferences to discuss complex cases and coordinate comprehensive treatment plans.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree.
  • Completed residency in pediatrics and fellowship in pediatric neurology.

Licensure and Certification:

  • Board certification or eligibility in Pediatric Neurology.
  • Active, unrestricted medical license in the state of Louisiana.
  • BLS and PALS certifications are preferred.

Experience:

  • Experience in pediatric neurology with a strong understanding of a wide range of pediatric neurological conditions.
  • Experience with advanced diagnostic and treatment modalities such as EEG, MRI, and genetic testing.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong diagnostic skills and experience managing complex neurological cases.
  • Excellent communication skills with a strong ability to educate and empathize with pediatric patients and their families.
  • Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems, with Epic experience preferred.
  • Research experience in pediatric neurology is a plus, along with a commitment to staying current on evidence-based practices.
